Today’s fandom hall of shame

I may make this a regular bit, I don’t know.  I mean, it may be a bit mean, but…  Here it goes!

I tend to frequent fanfiction.net when I’m bored at work.  It keeps me entertained to read up on my favorite characters in new ways that I may have never even have thought of.  However, as with any part of the fandom, there are always the “what was s/he thinking?”s out there.  These are pieces of work that are so bad or… bad that one has to wonder how this person could dream of putting them up for show.

Of course, I tend to set my searches to a bit of higher standards in hopes of avoiding these turds, but somehow they always slip through the cracks.  Thus, you will never see me post a fic that is below 10k words.  Anything below that point is just too easy to find horrible.

Well, here is today’s entrant into my personal hall of shame.

Dragon’s Scales

Welcome to the fic where you have a mary sue, who happen to be Sephiroth’s sister.  Gets even worse.  The pair happen to be both dragons for unknown reasons, because being a ShinRa experiment isn’t good enough craziness for Sephiroth…, and they also are mates in order to keep the dragon blood-line pure.

Congrats, Dragon’s Scales.  You have definitely made a mark.

Dear spam-bots

Not that this will make much of a difference, but:

Give it up!  I can pretty much easily tell that you’re a spam-bot by seeing the fajklfajkls; in your answers to things like AIM SN.  Also, none of your comments are getting through.  Registering here is getting you no-where but to a deleted state.

To buy or not to buy

I have been a Sonic fan since my early years.  However, as with most other sonic fans, my feelings for the series have wavered with years of…  not so fun games.  Hence, I have come to a point in which I am not so certain of myself when looking at Sonic games.  Sure, I’ve bought some horrible ones in the past, but do I want to continue doing this?

Coming up shortly, in just a few days, I will have to ask myself that question again, for Sonic 4 will be available for X-box live or the PS3.  I think I’d buy it for my X-box, even though I need more space on that hard drive (but that’s another matter).  However, I don’t know if I’ll buy it at all.  While it does look like a step in the right direction, the feeling of speed seems a bit diminished.

Thus, I shall have to ponder over this issue.

Let the Journey Begin

For the last couple of months, a few of my hunting partners have been throwing around the idea of making new hunters that will be on-line only characters.  Our target is to only hunt with each other on-line in order to document the challenges and adventures involved in making a new character without the assistance of those with better gear.

Well, last night, the Journey began.  I created my new bowgunner hunter, Nemesis, and jumped into the fray.  After suffering through a few annoying cutscenes, that I had seen before but could not skip, we began our path of quests to give us armor and gear.

After starting with just the standard SnS and no gear whatsoever, we battled the impossible odds of the mighty Kelbis.  Their horns became ours and their pelts were stripped.  We also mined and gathered the materials needed to start off our characters on our chosen paths.

Thus, I soon found that bowgunning is very expensive when you don’t even have 5k of zenny.  However, I will endure.  I will continue to buy ammo, and definitely grab it up when it’s on sale.  Still, I will probably be the hunter that struggles the most with zenny.

I started off with a light-medium bowgun mix.  I made the medium frame, light barrel, and light stock, which created a bowgun with several slots for poison shots.  I also created the wonderful leather armor to help me in not being naked and gathering items.

From there, we tackled our old foes like Great Jaggis, Pecs, and Ludroths.  I also found that monsters love charging gunners.  The life of a gunner is a life of pain.  It also seems that Royal Ludroth may be our wall until we get better armor.  For, two of us got charged and basically one-shotted by the swimming sponge.

For now, Nemesis’s goal is to create the peco armor.  Further updates will be given later on.

Almost time for the birth of a new computer

For the last few months, I’ve been slowly working up parts to building a computer, which is a first for me.  I’ve been nabbing sales where I see them, and saving a good amount of money to make a great computer.

So, in the upcoming weeks, I will finally have all the parts.  At that point, I shall finally enter the realm of the unknown, for I have upgraded components but never have I build a complete computer.

At this point, here are the basic stats of my new computer.

i7-930 processor.

6 GB of RAM

1 GB ATI 5850 graphics card

1 2 TB and 1 1.5 TB hard drive.

23″ widescreen monitor

And of course, other necessary parts that aren’t so exciting to report on.  Well, wish me luck.
