Pick whatever time period you want to start this pat. Whether it be a bit before Sephy is old enough to be sent away to SOLDIER or just at the day in which he is processed. I’m leaving that choice all up to you. Also, do you think Zack is the same age as Sephers or should I make up a random recruit to be at Sephy’s side while he trains?August 29, 2006 at 4:39 pm #13705
Very little changed after Jenna had left the boy with Hojo and his lab assistants. In fact, his life got worse for a period of time. Hojo had decided to punish him for his escape and made sure to make the boy’s life even more miserable at every single opportunity.
And that was how Sephy’s life continued for the years that followed. Just day after day worth of tests, abuse, being yelled at. The only fun he ever had was during one week where Hojo had gotten so sick that not even his colleagues would allow him into the sterile laboratory environment. It wasn’t any easier without Hojo, but just the fact he wasn’t around made the boy more cheerful. As he grew older, the lab techs and Hojo began to tell him more and more about where he was going to go after the labortatories – off to Junon for Soldier training. He was told that they had a very strict way of learning and a strong sense of order. After what Sephiroth had been through, it sounded like a haven compared to where he was now.
As the years passed, Sephiroth grew colder. He grew from the crying miserable little boy he had been into a sturdy short tempered teenager who often argued back with those that he deemed less or of no importance to him. It enraged Hojo to no end, but soon even his harsh voice and sharp stinging slaps didn’t faze the boy.
Sephiroth could not have been more impatient when the day of his departure finally arrived. His bags were packed and the lab assistants had laid out nice clothes for him. He had a nice clean white pressed shirt, and black pants, which were new to him, much different from the throw-on Shinra Labs printed cotton clothes he usually wore. He put them on anyway, not seeming to care too much. Then again, he found himself caring little about anything.
As part of his defiance to Hojo, he had begun to grow his hair out. A mess of silvery hair now fell to his shoulders, and an unruly growth of bangs above his forehead. He never cared to do much with it, but he had fiercely objected to it being cut and shaved off when it had ‘grown too long’ for Hojo’s liking, to the point where he would attack the scientist for even attempting to do so. He was considering growing it out, but hadn’t thought about exactly how long to grow it to.
Once he was ready to leave that morning, he was escorted onto the roof by unfriendly looking men in dark suits. It was dark and drizzling with light rain, but nobody seemed to care. The boy was led to an awaiting helicopter on the roof of the ShinRa Building, and was flown to Junon by helicopter later that afternoon. Although he did his best to appear cold and uninterested, inside, truthfully, he was absolutely fascinated by this new concrete stronghold that would become his new home. He had a good chance to get a look at it while being flown over it, and he liked what he saw.
After the helicopter had landed, he was led into the giant military facility from the roof, and escorted down to the second floor. The men in the suits escorted him into the main hall where other young recruits were gathered, and then just… left him. Sephiroth glanced around, rather confused as to what to do next. Just like everybody else.September 5, 2006 at 10:02 pm #13706
Ok, quick side note before I start this. Officially, from what I’ve read, Zack would have joined SOLDIER 10 years before FF VII, thus a few years before Cloud. There’s also reference that he joined because of Sephy-idoldom. However, since I can’t think of anyone better and we’re giving Sephy the younger side of his plausible years and not older… I am placing Zack in now. I’m also going to make the Gongona meltdown (which did happen, Kat!) occur in the midst of Zack’s military career. I’d think that sort of catastrophe would be pretty bad for the Midgar-Wutai propoganda war, well, at least for those in Gongona. This is paritally to Kas when she joins so she knows why I’m bending the rules with Zack. I know I’ve already explained this to Kat.
For weeks it had been all over the town, ever shop, inn, restraunt, even house had the fliers posted up on them. Even the radio and television blasted information about ShinRa’s plans to rebuild the army and make it even better every five minutes. Plans for bringing in young men and women from across the globe to replenish the ranks of the old army and eventually replace them all together with a brand new system were underway, so they didn’t want anyone not to be able to hear. In fact, the propaganda campaign was near to impossible for someone not to notice, especially not for him.
There wasn’t anything to do here, ever. All the people did was sit around and talk about the good old days before the reactors. No one even bothered to comment about how great life was now that they had pleantiful electricty. He could never have imagined life without mako sustaining his television. But everyone else wanted just to return to their dull old lives of milling around and allowing life to trudge on by as farmers and simple clerks at the local weapon, item, or accessory store. He never wanted to be something so simple as a blacksmith or a farmer, and he definitely didn’t want to sit around all day to see no customers come by. No, he wanted adventure and excitement, not this small-town life. So, the young boy, just barely a teenager, had amassed a large pile of the posters in his room so that he could study ever aspect of what was needed in order to join, not that the information was that difficult.
The boy had a messy mass of black hair that many people around the town claimed was so spikey that they could use it to make shishkabobs. Then others about the town claimed that the boy’s parents must have never had taught him how to brush his hair. It wasn’t his fault that his hair was the way it was, but he certainly liked it. It made him stand out, so no one would ever forget Zack.
So, once the date that ShinRa would open up their lines for applications, Zack was nearly one of the first to call in, not caring what his parents would say on the matter. He was more than estatic when he found a few weeks later that ShinRa had accepted him in as one of the first patch of new SOLDIERs and that he’d be flying off to Junon in another month or so. As far as he was concerned, this was the chance of a lifetime.
So excited was the boy that he immediately began to stuff all his belongings into a large tote, leaving nearly nothing behind in his room. At least, that was until his parents told him that he couldn’t go running about for weeks in the same old pair of dirty clothes over and over again. So, Zack begrudgingly unpacked some of his things and kept it out. Then, he was given more inforamtion about items that he would not be allowed to bring, so his bag became even lighter. Still, by the time the helicopter came by to pick him up, Zack had quite the sack to lug around. The pack was so heavy that he nearly fell back off the ramp when he tried to climb up into the passenger area of the copter.
Still, despite the small stumble, the boy safely made it off the ground and onto his departure to Junon. There were a few other boys in the craft as well, but Zack couldn’t recognize a single one of them. None of them had ever visited Gongona, and he doubted that any had even heard of his home town. Then again, Zack had never heard of a town named Rocket Town either. Then again, he never heard of a rocket either, but he was fascinated by the one boy’s tale about what they were trying to build there.
So, Zack spent the nearly day-long flight talking to all the boys and finding out about them. At least, he did until all of the others had nodded off to sleep due to exhaustion. On the other hand, Zack was full of such excitement and energy that he couldn’t even imagine going to sleep. Thus, he turned his attention to the window and kept himself fascinated by all the new sights. His eyes widened in wonder as he spotted the port town of Junon and the new military complex that was being built. What stood out the most was the huge cannon, which was still under construction, jutting out over the sea. He continued to stare down at the town until the copter touched down on the launch pad and several men in blue suits opened the doors to escort the boys inside the complex.
Zack was the first one up on his feet, for he was the only one still wide awake. Hardly needing any encouragement at all, Zack quickly jogged into the meeting room that Seph had been brought into not too long ago. The first thing that Zack did was move up into the line of recruits, winding up right next to Sephiroth. For a brief moment, he studied the strange silver-haired boy before giving him a wide grin and offering his hand in a friendly manner.
“Hi, I’m Zack from Gongona. What’s your name? Are you excited to be here as well?”September 9, 2006 at 3:49 am #13707
Sephiroth had been looking out the window and leaning on the window pane glass when the new voice spoke to him. He had been watching the ocean, and a storm brewing on the horizon out at sea. It had been more interesting than watching everybody else around him anyway. Secretly he was bothered by being around so many new people, maybe somewhat afraid of them even. He didn’t like it at all. He did not show any of this however, and just remained staring out the window, wondering what it might be like to be in a storm.
He turned his head towards the new voice and just stared silently at boy as he spoke. He narrowed his eyes at him and didn’t say anything at first. Why was he speaking to him? He wasn’t any more outstanding than anyone else here.
“I’m not excited to be here, no.” Sephiroth replied bluntly. “But it is better than where I was.” He moved off the window and closer to the other, his expression not softening any. “Hello, Zack. You may call me Sephiroth.” He raised an eyebrow as he noticed the boy’s hairstyle, inwardly thinking that it was very unusual. “So, did they drag you here, or did you come of your own accord?”September 9, 2006 at 4:36 am #13708
Zack stared at Sephiroth’s eyes for a moment, mesmorized by the shape of them. He had never seen anyone with such strange eyes, ever, nor had he ever seen anyone with eyes that glowed. “Wow, that’s so cool…” He continues to star at Sephiroth for another few moments before realizing that the silver-haired boy had asked him a question.
Quickly, Zack coughed and straightened up to cover up for his lapse. “Of course I came here on my own accord? Who wouldn’t want to? We’re going to be the greatest force ShinRa has ever made and win the war once and for all! I want to make history and I want to be one of the first ones out there.” He gives Sephiroth a big grin, looking particularly silly. “Why didn’t you get excited about all the news? Did your parents force you to come here?”September 9, 2006 at 4:21 pm #13709
Sephiroth narrowed his eyes at the boy’s entire attitude, immediately disliking how happy and energetic he was. He didn’t like the way the boy was stating at him and scowled as he turned his attention back to the window, breaking their eye contact.
“There’s nothing to get excited about,” Sephiroth grunted, his annoyance now very apparent if it wasn’t already before. “We come, we train, we go to war. From there, we either win, or die trying.” He shook his head and glanced back up at Zack at the mention of parents, his expression not softening any. “My parents did not force me to come, no. My parents are dead. I came simply because I was ordered to.”September 9, 2006 at 4:26 pm #13710
Zack briefly paused as he hears Sephiroth mention that his parents are dead. He frowns in a sympathetic manner and shakes his head. “That’s so sad. When did they die? I hope that they were nice and gave you good memories of them while they were alive.” The boy reaches over to pat Seph’s shoulder. “So, you don’t want to be here at all? That’s too bad. I heard that we are going to revolutionize the army. That will be so cool. We’ll be making history.”September 9, 2006 at 4:52 pm #13711
Sephiroth became quite edgy and defensive as his shoulder was patted. Based on pretty much all of his past experiences, anybody who touched him usually intended to hurt him. When Zack did not do anything more than that, only then Sephiroth calmed down again. He did not understand why the boy had done so, but did not want to question it incase he was thought stupid.
“I do not remember my parents.” Sephiroth grunted in response. “My mother died before I was born. As for my father, well, I do not remember him. They are of no importance to me, and I have no memories of them.” He paused, scowling. “It is not that I do not want to be here. It was better than the place where I used to be. But I must admit, I have no real positive or negative feelings about being here.” He stopped for a moment, narrowing his eyes.
“Why am I telling these things to this person I’ve never met before?” He thought to himself.
“I came because I was ordered to.” Sephiroth grunted as he finished his explanation. “It was expected of me by my caretakers, and while I am here, I will continue to do as I am told.”September 9, 2006 at 5:09 pm #13712
Zack: *intently listens in to Sephy’s story. He frowns even more, feeling sorry for Sephiroth then shakes his head* Wow, that’s just so sad. You mean that you’re an orphan? I’d hate to have to live a life with no parents. *Shakes his head then looks up and thinks* Hey, you probably never had many friends before either, did you? You look like you haven’t. Want to by my friend? *offers his hand out to Seph in an attempt to have a hand shake* I’ll keep you company and help you out. *gives Sephy his silly grin again* I’m certain we would need as many friends as we can take here.September 9, 2006 at 5:41 pm #13713
Sephiroth: *simply stares at the boy at the mention of friends. He slowly shakes his head in response* No, I’ve never had many friends before. There was never a need, nor much opportunity. *glances down at his hand and looks up at him again, as if scrutinizing his entire body for signs of lies or deception. When he finds none, he cautiously reaches out to grasp his hand, shaking it* You may choose to be an ally if you please. *smirks slightly* Though I must say, I have had some battle training. I will not need much assistance.September 9, 2006 at 5:47 pm #13714
Zack: *happily shakes Seph’s hand* Well, sometimes having someone to support you is much more important than having simply battle experience. At least, that’s what I think. *moves his hand away from Seph’s and reaches back to scratch the back of his head* So, Sephiroth, when do you think that they’ll actually start this? We’ve been standing around for quite some time already. Do you think that there’ll be even more recruits taht we need to wait for?
Meanwhile, several of the other boys that are waiting for someone to come in and tell them what to do notice Sephiroth and Zack. The boys loudly snicker and begin making fun of both of their hairstyles. Some even call Sephiroth a girl because of his long hair.September 9, 2006 at 6:52 pm #13715
Sephiroth: I don’t know why the hell we’re still waiting. Maybe there are more recruits coming, but I do not know. *the scowl immediately returns to his face as he openly expresses his annoyance. He glances around the area, trying to guess how many are gathered around already* I can tell you one thing however, most of them are becoming quite bored. *turns his attention towards some of the other males whom are snickering at his appearance* Do you think something is funny about the way I look? *makes a loud angry snarl and immediately charges in on the males that called him a girl, taking sharp anger-fueled swings at them with his fists*
Meanwhile, there is activity going on at the front of the auditorium. Heidegger walks onto the stage at the front of the auditorium, escorted by two high ranked and uniformed officers in red Soldier attire. He bangs his palm on the microphone to get everybody’s attention, and then he picks up the microphone to speak into it.
Heidegger: Shut up everybody! *stands tall and waits for things to die down for a few moments* Welcome to Junon’s army barracks. You will be with us anywhere from twelve months to three years learning what you need to know. As you’re aware, you are the next lot of recruits whom will one day help lead our army into greatness. Detailed information about what will happen here has been provided with the pack that is awaiting you in your respective dormitories. You will also find your uniforms there as well. You have been assigned to your dormitories; a list of names is posted on the wall nearby me. *points to it* It will not be changed, so do not bother asking. You may spend the rest of the evening settling in and becoming familiar with your comrades and the facilities. You will be expected to be awake and ready at 600 hours sharp tomorrow, for training begins then. *pauses* New recruits are not permitted to go beyond level three of the complex. If any are caught doing this, there will be a severe reprimand for all involved. That is all. *waves to the two soldiers nearby, whom open a pair of doors at the front end of the auditorium, which lead into the training facility area assigned especially for first level recruits. One path leads away to the mass of dormitories, while the other leads to other facilities, such as a gym, the mess hall, and communal shower/bathroom areas*September 10, 2006 at 3:58 am #13716
Zack: *Yelps as he watches Sephy charge off to attack the other boys and quickly dashes off to catch him* Oy! Hey, do you want to be kicked out before this even gets started? *shakes his head and slowly pulls Sephiroth away from the boys* Take a deep breath and calm down, man. You need to be able to take words as just that, words. *pats Seph’s back then quickly straightens up as he sees Heidegger come up on the stage. He intently listens to the speach, even though he becomes slightly bored by it at nearly half-way through. His eyes droop slightly as he fights to stay awake through the older man’s information; however, he perks right back up as he hears about the roomate situation. So, he whispers to Sephiroth* I wonder who I’m going to be set up with. I hope he won’t be a bore and knows how to have fun. *grins at the thought*
*Once the bearded General gets off the stage, Zack dashes over to the wall where the dorm listings is posted and scans it for his name. Finally, he spots it and grins as he sees who he is roomed with* Well, now that’s luck. Hey, Sephiroth, come here!September 10, 2006 at 4:29 am #13717
Sephiroth: *growls as he is yanked away from the other boys and kicks out at them, loudly snarling in an aggressive manner, having fully wanted to assert his dominance over them. When the leader of Soldier speaks, he barely pays attention and returns to glancing out the window. Only when the speech is over and Zack calls him does he return to reality. He moves through the crowd as they make their way over to the board of posted names, shoving a few of them out of the way until he is near the front of the crowd. He glances up at the posted names papers and grunts* Indeed, it would seem so. *heads out the doors, then walks towards his dormatory* We are in number six. This better be interesting…September 10, 2006 at 4:38 am #13718
Zack: Huh? *blinks as he watches Seph walk out of the doors* Hey, don’t you have bags that you need to bring in? *shakes his head then jogs over to where he left his own bags. He takes a few moments to gather his stuff all up before walking out of the room. He looks around at the hallways before heading over to the dormitories* Number six… Let’s see.. *grins as he spots the room number and quickly opens the door to barge in* My, this is a lot bigger than I thought it’d be. *looks around with wonder as he surveys the room*September 10, 2006 at 5:03 am #13719
Sephiroth: *glances back at Zack, then shakes his head* I was given no posessions to bring. *walks away from Zack, but because they are heading in the same direction, he doesn’t get much of an opportunity to escape. He heads into the dorm, grunting as he discovers that the beds have not been assigned to them* It is adequate. *moves to the back corner furthest away from the door, choosing the lower bunk. He sits down on it and picks up the pack laid out for him, examining his new uniform* So, this is it, hmm? Looks like we are stuck here for the next few months.September 10, 2006 at 5:08 am #13720
Zack: *eyes Sephiroth for a moment then shakes his head* Man, you sure have a way of sucking the fun out of life, don’t you? *scratches the back of his head* Did no one ever teach you to smile when you were growing up? *sets his belongings down on the floor then begins to store them away in a few of the drawers. Eventually, he pulls out a photo of his family and sets it down ontop of the dresser* Hey, does that bag of yours say anything about what tomorrow’s schedule will be? I wonder what we’ll be starting with.September 10, 2006 at 5:37 am #13721
Sephiroth: *reaches above him to grab the pack laid out on the top bunk, then tosses it over to him* Read the information provided, it might help us. *picks up the printed schedule* Rise and preparation at 0600 hours. Breakfast in the mess hall at 0630. From there, we have three and a half hours of drill exercises, then begin lessons of various kinds, depending on what you have chosen. *shrugs* Doesn’t sound very interesting. Read the rest of the schedule if you want to know more.September 10, 2006 at 5:45 am #13722
Zack: Oof… *groans as the pack hits his chest and takes a step back* Hey, not so rough.. *sighs and shakes his head* I was just asking because you were already there next to your pack. *sighs then begins to dig through his pack. As he is searching, he mutters to Sephy* Lessons depending on what we have choosen? What does that mean? I don’t recall choosing anything yet. They just told us to go to our rooms, that’s it. *shakes his head then pulls out his uniform* Hmm… This looks a bit too big to me, are you certan that you don’t have the pack that is meant for me?September 10, 2006 at 5:58 am #13723
Sephiroth: *picks up his pack and glances at the sizes indicated on the uniform. He tosses it onto the floor nearby Zack’s feet* See if that one fits, then. One of them is definitely bound to. As for lessons, I suppose we choose them tomorrow morning. *shrugs*September 10, 2006 at 6:01 am #13724
Zack: *stands up, sighing at the way Seph is behaving* Hey, you really are tense. *thinks for a moment then walks over to Sephiroth and grabs his hand* Hey, come with me. I’ll show you something that will help you feel better. *gives him a sly grin* Trust me. *tries to lead Sephy to the bathroom*September 10, 2006 at 6:30 am #13725
Sephiroth: *scowls as Zack grabs his hand and glances up at him* What? What are you plannin to show me? *narrows his eyes, not liking the way Zack is behaving. His curiousity has the better of him however, and he follows*September 10, 2006 at 6:39 am #13726
Zack: Trust me, it’ll make you feel much better and more relaxed. *moves Seph into the bathroom and stops infront of the television* At least, you don’t look like the type to have ever tried this before. Now. *leans in to Seph’s ear and begins to whisper to him. He takes several moments to explain to the silver-haired boy the “miraculous” thing called masturbation*September 10, 2006 at 11:19 am #13727
Sephiroth: *seems rather annoyed as Zack explains the mechanisms of masturbation to him at first. He makes a loud hiss after the explanation is over and jerks his head back, loudly grunting at the boy* How the hell is that supposed to relax somebody?September 10, 2006 at 4:22 pm #13728
Zack: *chuckles at Sephy’s reaction and pats his shoulder* You’ll see when you try it. Trust me, it really feels good and helps you get rid of a lot of tension. *turns and heads out of the room* Go ahead, try it. You’ll see what I’m talking about. *gives Sephiroth a big grin before moving back toward his pack to explore all the things in it*
