Maria: *whimpers and lowers her head* I see… He’ll probably kill them all then. *sighs and lies down again* Why are you helping me? What importance do I have to you?
Zack: I couldn’t help you when you were being raped.. I was too weak to stop him. So I’m helping now. Once this boat docks, I’ll make some food for you out of whatever I can steal, and some fresh fish I caught.
Maria: *slowly nods and sighs* IS this your boat? It’s not bad… *she looks up into Zack’s eyes* Where are we going?
Zack: We’re going someplace far away and safe. I’m going to sail this boat down the river, and we’ll take residence in an abandoned farm house somewhere. I’ll look after you and feed you with whatever I can provide. *heads back out onto the deck of the old dinghy and manipulates the boat to sail closer to corn plantations that are growing very close to the river. He snaps off several ripe ears of corn and tosses them onto the deck* We can make a simple meal out of the fish and the corn.
Maria: *very slowly nods* I see… So I am to be a fugative now? *whimpers and curls up* I’m not hungry… you can make whatever you want, sir. *slowly shakes her head at him and softly cries. She whispers to herself* I want to go home.
Zack: *frowns* You can’t, not right now anyway. It’s too dangerous. You could be harmed even worse… *sighs* I’m sorry it has to be that way. I didn’t want it to happen, and I tried to stop it. But I’m weak, and a failure. *moves the boat back towards the middle of the river and begins going through the cooking utensils onboard that the previous owner had owned*
Maria: *Sighs and looks out to the side of the window. She silently watches the scenery pass by and faintly frowns. Soon afterwards, she softly speaks* I’ve never been this far away from home before. I don’t recognize anything here… *Frowns even more at a thought* There was something you were trying to get me to drink… what was it?
Zack: I’ve never been here myself, so this is new to both of us. *nods his head* As for the liquid I was trying to give to you before, its just a mixture of dissolved ingredients in a solution. It’s basically a medicine, it will make you feel better. You don’t have to drink it now.
Maria: *looks up at him then slowly sits upright* What will it make me feel better from? *frowns in thought* If it’s a medicine, I suppose it won’t hurt for me to drink it..
Zack: You’re hurt, sad, and scared. I think that’s reason enough to take medicine to stop yourself from feeling bad. There’s a term for that kind of medication but I don’t know it’s name in this language. In any case, it cheers you up.
Maria: I suppose I’d like the medicine then. Anything that will help. *slowly nods and slowly stands up. She takes a few uneasy steps before tumbling over, not used to walking on a boat at all. She makes a soft “umph” sound as she hits the deck and whimpers*
Zack: *hops down beside her and crouches down* There, there. I’ve done that before. *tries to help her back up* Come on, sit up top with me here.
Maria: *nods at Zack and grips onto his arm as she stands up* I’ve never been on a boat before. It’s strange to walk on this uneven ground. *looks up at him* Tell me, how old are you? Your hair is already grey.. but you have no wrinkles.
Zack: You’ll get used to it. This river is fairly gentle. *chuckles* My hair hasn’t got anything to do with age. It’s silver. My hair is just that colour because that’s the way it’s always been, ever since I was small.
Maria: How strange… I’ve never seen silver-hair on a person before. *She sighs and leans against Zack’s side* You promise that you won’t hurt me and will keep me safe?
Zack: *slowly nods his head* I promise. I’ve no reason to hurt you, and no reason to be violent, or nasty towards you. I want to keep you safe, you are my responsibility now.
Maria: *looks up at Zack in confusion* Why am I your responsibility? Am I special to you or something? Am I supposed to do something for you and the other gods?
Zack: *blinks* Gods? *quickly shakes his head* Oh, no no no. I’m not a god by any means. I’m just a regular guy. If you stabbed me, I’d bleed and die. *cleans off the cooking utensils in the water* Once we get back on land, we can cook this stuff. How do you feel about grilled fish and boiled corn?
Teresa: *gives Zack a small nod* That sounds good. *softly mumbles* I haven’t eaten for quite some time. *looks down at her middrift and whimpers* I still feel dirty down there. *she slowly shakes her head and moves to sit down on the deck. Tears begin to roll down her cheeks once more*
Zack: *sighs at her* I promise you, once we’re back on dry land, I’ll boil up a large tub of water so you can have a bath. For now, we just need to keep drifting and get out of here. *scans the land up ahead for signs of life*
Maria: I don’t know if any amount of baths would make me feel clean again.. *looks up at Zack* Maybe that medicine you have will help. You said it’ll make things all better, right?
There is not much life up ahead accept for the sounds of tropical birds. The area is becoming more forested and less settled by humans the further down the river they travel. Zack may occaccoinally see nesting crocodilians as well.
Zack: It might not make everything feel better, but it will help you out quite a bit. *frowns at the sight of crocodiles* Perhaps we’ve gone too far… *sighs* It’s getting dark. We should dock this boat somewhere before it gets completely dark and cook food.
Maria: *Slowly nods at Zack* How far were we supposed to travel? *looks out to the water and faintly grins at the sight of the fishes underneath* It is beautiful..
Zack: If there weren’t crocodiles, I’d suggest you go swimming. *sits on the back of the boat and uses his telekinetic powers to move the entire boat towards the bank. The boat softly bumps against the riverbank after a moment* You can stay safe in here if you want. I’m going to go tie up the front of the boat to stop it from floating away. Then we can look for an abandoned old barn and start a fire so we can cook or something. Does that sound good?
