Maria: *slowly nods as Zack explains to her what he’s going to do. But frowns as he hits a word that she’s not familiar with* Sir, what do you mean by high-protein diet? What is protein? *she blinks and looks down at her new daughter. A mix of emotions cross her face before she seemingly reluctantly takes her from Zack* So, the demon’s spawn is alive…
Zack: She’s not a demon. She doesn’t even look slightly demonic. You should feed her before she gets weak and lethargic. As for protein, it’s a nutrient your body needs to aid healing. Eggs are a very good example of a food containing protein. I hope you like them, I’m going to feed you lots of them from here on.
Maria: *deeply frowns and takes the child. She loudly sighs before looking up at Zack* Find a wet-nurse for the child then. I do not want to feed her more than I have to. And please, leave. I can’t be taking down my top with you around, sir.
Zack: Oh, right… *picks up the towels and his medical box, heading out of the bedroom. He heads outside and glances up at the stars, sitting down on the dry ground nearby*
Maria: *looks down at Jenna for a few minutes then wakes her up. She soon begins to feed the infant, though there’s a distant look in her eyes as if she didn’t want to be associated with the action at all. She looks down at the infant as it finishes feeding then sets it down on the bed and redoes her dress* I’m done, sir.
Zack: *doesn’t hear her and stays outside. He frowns and ponders to himself how he’s going to find a wet-nurse in the village and sighs, giving up on the idea for now. He teleports away to steal several eggs from a farm and teleports back into the kitchen to fry a few of them up*
Maria: *looks up at Zack as he comes into the house and faintly grins at him. However, that grin quickly disappears as Jenna begins to cry. She frowns and turns her head away from the infant*
Zack: You should feed her, or comfort her. She’s going to need it a lot for many months to come. I’d offer to do it, but I’m cooking out here right now. I don’t want to burn the house down.
Maria: I already fed the demon child. That is all that she deserves for now, sir. *shakes her head and closes her eyes* I don’t want anything more to do with her for now.
Zack: *deeply frowns at Maria’s attitude and sighs* Alright, I’ll look after her for a while, then… *moves into the room to take the baby girl from Maria, setting her over his shoulder, patting her back to try and calm her down*
Maria: *deeply sighs as the baby is taken away and just stares up at the ceiling. Her abdomen still hurts when she moves, so she does her best to stay in one spot and not move at all*
Jenna: *continues to cry out and wiggles about in Zack’s arms*
Zack: *sighs and takes his cooking off the stove, then closes the stove door so the fire will smother itself and die out. He picks up his bag of earned coins and carries Jenna with him outside and begins walking through the village, looking in the other houses’ windows, trying to find somebody who already has infants, hoping to pay one of them to feed Jenna as well*
Near the back of the town, there is another female who recently had a child. The woman agrees to Zack’s offer of money to help feed Jenna, but she inquires as to the state of Jenna’s mother and why she couldn’t be fed by her.
Maria: *closes her eyes and rests while Zack is out. She softly mumbles to herself and rubs her healing abdomen. She unconciously picks at the stitches there as she rubs it*
Zack: *explains to the female that Maria is sickly and weak, as well as poorly nourished. He hands over payment and leaves the infant Jenna with the lady with the promise of paying her more money in a week. he heads back to the house to check up on Maria and frowns at her* You should leave your abdomen alone. You just had major surgery.
Maria: *opens her eyes to look up at Zack then frowns* I’m sorry. *she moves her hand away from her stomach region* It hurts though… It feels like a thousand little teeth are biting me…
Zack: *sighs and moves back into the kitchen to pour some cooled boiled water into a glass. He opens his box of medical supplies and takes out a couple of painkillers, crushing them up and dissolving them in the water. He then stirs it up and walks back into the bedroom, offering the glass to her* Here. Drink this, it will take some of the pain away. I only have one shot of stronger stuff, but it could knock you out for days.
Maria: *reaches out to take the glass of water then slowly sips on it. She frowns at the taste, but drinks it anyway* This tastes awful.. What is in it, sir?
Meanwhile, back in the house that Zack left Jenna in. A fire begins to burn near the area where Jenna is currently sleeping. The woman who is taking care of Jenna panics at the sight of the fire and takes the infant and her children and quickly escapes from the hose. Once outside, she calls out to the other villagers for help.
Zack: It’s a mild pain killing drug called ‘acetaminophen’. You’ll feel a lot better in about thirty minutes, and… *frowns as he smells smoke and glances out the window as he hears yelling, immediately tensing up as he realizes that it’s coming from the general direction of the house where he left Jenna* I’ll be right back… *promptly runs outside, dashing off into the village to go see if Jenna and the other people in the house are safe*
Maria: Alright.. *Groans as the drugs start to take effect. She tries to stay awake so that she can see what made Zack so scared, but she winds up falling asleep. Her head lolls back onto her pillow and she relaxes in general*
Jenna: *is in the arms of the wetnurse. She is unharmed, but a few of the other children that had lived in the house are mildly burnt.*
Wetnurse woman who needs no name at the moment: *is franticly yelling and wondering how the fire started and if this was a curse from the gods*
Zack: *sighs* Calm down, OK? I’ll help you build a new house… there’s an extra room at my house, so you can stay there if you want… I don’t think Maria will care. *crouches down to inspect the children* Bring them with me, I’ll look after the burns.
The woman slowly calms down and tanks Zack for his generosity. She continues to ramble on about paying perfect attention to her children and not knowing how the fire started in the first place. She also states that it is a very fortunate thing that the newborn in her hands, Jenna, was not harmed.
Zack: *frowns and takes Jenna from the woman to inspect her over, wondering if she was the one that caused the fire. He glances into her eyes and examines her face, trying to make it look like he is inspecting her for injury* Come on, I don’t have much food, but you can have my bed. I shall sleep under the stars, or in the boat. *cuddles Jenna and carries her with him back to the house*
Jenna: *stares striaght back at Zack as he examines her. She seems much more aware than most infants, but only by a small fraction. Still, despite the intensity of her stare, there is nothing noteworthy about her eyes. They are brown and nearly the same as most other people’s eyes from this region*
The wetnurse thanks Zack once more then gathers up her children so that she could escort them to the house. She only has about two older children and an infant of her own, so her family would not take up that much room.
Zack: *Makes a soft clicking noise at Jenna and strokes her cheek, sighing* “Just don’t burn down my house now, alright?” *carries her with him back to the house, opening the door to let the others inside*
