Zack: I think it’s safe here. I’ll wait it out a few days, and if it truly is safe, I’ll secure you some land and a house here. You can continue on with your life. Don’t let what has happened deter you.
July 13, 2006 at 9:14 pm #8249SeferiaKeymasterMaria: *slowly nods* I suppose that can work, but I don’t know how to fish… *frowns as she thinks about what Zack said* Do you mean that you’ll leave me here? Alone?
July 13, 2006 at 9:38 pm #8250Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: *sighs at her* One day I would like to work out how to return home to my family. But for now, I will stay here with you. It could be for months, maybe years. I do not know… but until then, I will take care of you. *grins slightly* Perhaps you may find a male who will know how to properly care for you and will respect you. If that happens, I will leave you alone.
July 13, 2006 at 9:52 pm #8251SeferiaKeymasterMaria: You treat me well… *lowers her head* I’ll never be able to repay your kindness to me. *looks up at him and frowns* You’ve done so much. I know I say it over and over again, but it’s true. *shakes her head then lies down on the bed* Thank you again.
Feel free to skip more time if you want. It’ll probably take her to the mid-way point when she starts bulging for her to figure out that she’s pregnant.July 14, 2006 at 1:41 am #8252Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: Don’t thank me for anything… I couldn’t help you that much… all I could do was get you away from it, and even that didn’t help… *lies down on his bed and glances up at the ceiling, silent*
Zack spent the next few months in the small town, working on whatever he could to bring in money to continue housing Maria at the inn. He found work anywhere, repairing fishing equipment, building new parts, inventing simple additions to people’s boats to make their lives easier. He missed Holly, Meirnden and Xelong very much, and the only way he could keep going was to work even harder.
He spent the extra money he earned buying building supplies and hiring some workers, helping to construct a simple house on free land in the village in the free time he had in the day. After three months had passed, the house was complete, and he had also managed to purchase some furniture to go inside. He told Maria none of this however, intending it to be a surprise. Why he did this for Maria exactly, he did not really know. Perhaps it was because she reminded him of Holly so much, or because she looked so much like the adoptive mother that had cared for him, or perhaps she was helpless and needed protecting. In any case, Zack was determined to give her something useful to start her new life with because he felt responsible for ruining her old one. He hoped she would be independant by the time he was able to go home.
He headed back into the inn after another day of work, grinning slightly at Maria as he sat down on his bed, silent, waiting to see what kind of mood she was in before announcing the big surprise.
July 14, 2006 at 2:03 am #8253SeferiaKeymasterMaria, on the other hand, did not fair as well during the past few months as Zack had. Her stomach had bulged due to the growing infant inside of her, but her health slowly deteriorated. Part of her failing health could possibly be because the pregnancy was stressing her body, but the rest was due to malnutrition and lack of sleep.
For starters, she had remained depressed and paranoid at times depsite all of Zack’s best efforts to cheer her up. Thanks to her condition, she frequently woke up in the middle of the night screaming due to the horrors in her nightmares. Images of Salvador and her family which she lost plagued her mind. It seemed that she could not spend a single moment asleep without being tormented.
Then, there was the fact that her depression curbed down her appetite. At best, she’d only nibble on the food that Zack gave her. But on several days, she’d just wind up staring at it and refusing to eat at all.
Still, depite all of the mother’s ill health, the fetus inside her was becoming quite strong and healthy. It’s growth was sufficient enough to cause a decent sized bulge in Maria’s abdomen. So, even though Maria wasn’t overly huge, she was at least a good enough weight to have a chance of providing a healthy child.
Maria: *is currently watching the boats pass by from outside the window. Her hand idly pats her stomach as she daydreams into the distance, but her thoughts are not really on the fetus. Instead, a small stream of tears drop down from Maria’s eyes as she thinks of her family once more*
July 14, 2006 at 2:37 am #8254Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: *lowers his head and sighs as he picks up on the kind of mood that Maria is in. He moves over to her and lightly pats her shoulder* You miss them, huh. I’m not sure how much of the afterlife you believe in, but I’m sure they’re safe in the care of whatever entity takes care of your planet. *lightly nudges her* You barely touched the food I left for you this morning.
July 14, 2006 at 2:52 am #8255SeferiaKeymasterMaria: *looks over at Zack and shakes her head* I’m not hungry. The food looks good though. *softly coughs and rests her head on the window sill* You look like you’re in a good mood. Are you going to go home soon?
July 14, 2006 at 3:02 am #8256Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: *shakes his head* No, but you’re going to a new house. Ever since we’ve been here, we stayed in this old inn. Well, no longer because you have a house waiting for you near the edge of the village. The locals said I could build a house here, so I did. Want to see it?
July 14, 2006 at 3:10 am #8257SeferiaKeymasterMaria: A house? Where did you get the money? *Frowns and shakes her head* You’ve once again put me into your debt. *she stands up and shuffles over to his side* I take it you wanted to show me the new house now, right? I’d like that.
July 14, 2006 at 3:16 am #8258Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: Come on then. *grins and picks up his coat, offering it to her* Are you good to walk? It’s a brisk walk across the village, though it’s not that far.
July 14, 2006 at 3:39 am #8259SeferiaKeymasterMaria: *grins at Zack and thankfully takes his hand* I think I’ll be fine. I’ve been feeling a bit better as of late. I have been able to eat without throwing it back up. *she leans against Zack as she walks* Is it a nice house?
July 14, 2006 at 3:43 am #8260Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: It’s very simple and rustic. It’s made out of cured and dried logs, and nailed together with large boards and support beams. It has a kitchen with a fire stove, and a fireplace. It’s got a total of four rooms, and the bedroom is a bit small, but you’ll like it. I’m sure you will.
July 14, 2006 at 3:50 am #8261SeferiaKeymasterMaria: Four rooms? What am I ever going to do with that much space? I don’t know what I’ll ever do with such a large house. *shakes her head and grins at Zack* Thank you, though. I really appreciate your gifts to me.
July 14, 2006 at 4:32 am #8262Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: You’re content with only four rooms? You’re going to need more space if you ever find a male and start a family.
July 14, 2006 at 4:49 am #8263SeferiaKeymasterMaria: How big of houses do they make where you come from? I’ve hardly ever seen houses with more than two rooms… *slowly shakes her head* My house was just one of the rare ones built recently. That’s why we liked it so much..
July 14, 2006 at 5:09 am #8264Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: My home? I used to live in one in a place called Mideel, before I had my daughter and found my partner. I didn’t own it though, I paid a grumpy old perosn to live there every week. It had five rooms, and an indoor bathroom. But it was lousy to look at.
July 14, 2006 at 5:11 am #8265SeferiaKeymasterMaria: Huh? An indoor bathroom? You mean like that tub where they put the boiled water in so I could cleanse myself there instead of the river? That’s nice. *grins up at Zack* Sounds like you had a rather good life.
July 14, 2006 at 5:25 am #8266Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: *slowly shakes his head* It wasn’t very good. It was in a bad area. Lots of people stealing from each other, fist fights, that sort of things. *leads her across the town and to the small house made out of logs and boards* Here we are. You can keep this.
July 14, 2006 at 5:29 am #8267SeferiaKeymasterMaria: *grins up at Zack and hugs him* Thank you so very much. It is lovely. You’re going to stay with me in here, right? I’d like for you to keep me company. *she nervously brushes the fingers of her right hand through her hair*
July 14, 2006 at 6:07 am #8268Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: *nods* I’ll stay with you here for a while. At least until my family finds me… I don’t know how long that will take though..
July 14, 2006 at 6:11 am #8269SeferiaKeymasterMaria: Thank you so much. *stumbles away from Zack and shuffles into the house so she can start exploring. She is clearly very interested and curious about her new home*
July 14, 2006 at 6:19 am #8270Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: *just allows Maria to explore. The house is divided into four fairly equal sized quadrants, consisting of a kitchen, a bedroom, a lounging room area with a clear window with real glass in it and a very heavy solid iron closed oven style heater stove, and the last room is devoid of anything for the time being* I hope you enjoy it. Maybe one day you’ll raise a family of your own here.
July 14, 2006 at 6:26 am #8271SeferiaKeymasterMaria: *looks back at Zack then frowns and looks down at her belly* Maybe… but I am carrying the child of a demon. *deeply frowns at the thought of Salvador* I don’t know if I should raise it. It’d be against the will of the gods.
July 14, 2006 at 6:41 am #8272Kat AclysmKeymasterZack: *sighs* It’s not a demon, Maria. That guy was a dragon, a big red powerful one, and… *blinks as he stares at her, becoming silent. He studies her face very closely and moves to sit down, finally piecing together the fact that Maria is Jenna’s mother. The circumstances with the red dragon raping her and her close appearance to Jenna fit the story*
