Sarge: *pushes Sephiroth into the driver’s seat* Well, you think you don’t need this class, girly, so show us. *chews on his cigar and frowns at Sephiroth’s words* Say what? You don’t know why you will need to know how to use terrain vehicles, butterscotch? *scowls and spits out of the side of his mouth before glancing at the other boys* I suppose the rest of you can tell mister intelligence here.
*Another one of the new recruits nods and salutes before speaking* Because marines fight most of our battles on the terrain, whether it be alien planetoid, colony, or otherwise, sir!
Sephiroth: *makes a loud winded noise as he is shoved into the driver’s seat, then sighs, moving his hands on the steering wheel* Alright, fine… I’ll show you how to drive it. Get back, and get out of my way. *floors the gas pedal, causing the warthog to roar away from its starting position, flying nearly halfway across the track and launching itself over a jump before he has a chance to stab the brake pedal. As he does so, his chest slams into the horn and the vehicle loudly honks as it comes to an abrupt stop*
Sarge: Heh, looks like pretty-boy isn’t as smart as he thought he was. *turns around to face the rest of the class* Now, ladies, are you ready to learn about the Warthog, or are you going to suggest any more mythical creatures, hm? Well?
*the other boys remain silent, not wanting to be humiliated like Sephiroth and Jackson were*
Sarge: Good, now file up and head over to the warthog, double time! *narrows his eyes at Sephiroth* And get your ass out of that seat, butterscotch.
Sephiroth: *mutters to himself about the uselessness of the class and hops out of the vehicle again, scowling* Yes, sir… *sighs and moves to join the other recruits once again, closing his eyes* *”Noemi, did you ever have to learn about terrain vehicles? Is this a mandatory class?”*
Noemi: ~Hm? I didn’t need to take any sort of class, no. However, I do know that all marines need to be versed on terrain vehicles. After all, it is the marines who are sent onto planetary missions.~ *pauses for a moment as she jots down some notes from her own class* ~Naval officers specialize in space flight and battles, though. So, there is next to no reason for me to learn about terrain vehicles.~
Sarge: *begins to instruct the boys on the various workings of the Warthog. He seems to overemphasize power and torque and skip over bits that he considers weak and pointless. Still, after about ten minutes of speaking to the class, he calls out* Alright, ladies. Form a single-file line! You are going to take this baby for a ride and see how much you’ve taken in.
Sephiroth: *pays attention throughout the lesson, making mental notes to himself wherever he can. When the other recruits get to their feet and make a line, he loudly sighs* Why do I want to go for another ride in it…? *whimpers and moves to the back of the line, wanting to avoid riding in the warthog again for as long as possible* *”You’re right, Noemi. I should have joined the air force…”* *sighs* *”Can’t I just be given the files for this unit and have them implanted into my brain?”* *grumbles and folds his arms, waiting for his turn*
Noemi: ~No, Sephiroth. Some things need more than just knowledge of so and so. For driving and piloting, you most definitely need to actually go through the experiences and learn the feel of them.~ *frowns in thought* ~It’s like combat training. Do you think that someone with book smarts on combat can beat someone who’s been actually practicing the techniques?~
Sarge: *laughs and jabs jokes as the various boys make mistakes. Still, within his jokes are clues as to what they are doing wrong*
Sephiroth: *sighs aloud* *”You’re right about that, Noemi… though it’s still a giant pain in the ass! I’m going to make one of the other people in my party drive me around or something. I don’t want to drive the warthog, its a tempermental machine.”* *slowly makes his way to the front of the line, scowling* Do I really have to drive this again, sir?
Noemi: *releases a soft chuckle before quickly recomposing herself. She turns her head to the side and coughs* ~Sure you are, Sephiroth. I know you. As soon as you master that thing, you’re never going to want to let someone drive you around. You hate having your life in someone else’s hands and control.~
Sarge: *scowls at Sephiroth and chews on his cigar in annoyance* What was that, pretty-boy?
Sephiroth: Uh… nothing, sir. *deeply frowns and moves into the warthog when it’s his turn to drive* *”I guess you’re right, Noemi… I’d get impatient and drive myself.”* *this time he is cautious on the pedals and follows Sarge’s instructions properly, resulting in a gentle drive of the vehicle. He takes it out, steering slowly around the track, returning it to it’s starting point. Then he climbs out again, shaking himself off* How good do you think that was, Sargeant?
Sarge: Hrmph, that was fine *pauses for a moment then grins* for a grandma. What the hell was that, rat hair? Did the color of your hair get to your brain? Hrmph. I’ve seen turtles move faster than you!
Noemi: ~I know I’m right. Just give these things time and you’ll be master of everything and then some.~
Seph: *growls and clenches his fists, silently muttering to himself for a few moments* Thank you very much, sir. *moves out of the warthog and returns to the bench* *”You have to be kidding me. This class is mundane and ridiculous. I could request the driving files from the database and not need to take this class. The guy is an idiot.”*
Noemi: ~Sephiroth, didn’t we just go over this? Having knowledge of something and actually being able to perform it well are two different things.~ *slowly shakes her head* ~That is why I’ve done thousands of flight simulations rather than just read up on the mechanics. No matter, I need to concentrate on my class now. I’ll see you tonight, Sephiroth.~
Sephiroth: *sighs* *”Very well. Sorry for that, Noemi.”* *just rests his chin on one hand, sighing as he pays attention through the rest of the lecture. He just simply takes mental notes, rising to his feet once it’s over to return back to his quarters, wanting to spend a few hours studying*
Noemi: *returns to Sephy and hers quarters at about 5:30 in the afternoon. She brings in several boxes of Chinese food, having decided to treat them to better food than what can be found in the cafeteria. After setting the boxes down on a table in the main part of the room, she gathers up plates, silverware, and glasses and sets them down as well*
Sephiroth: *vaguely hears Noemi return and nods up at her, both as a means of acknowledging her presence and to greet her, then returns to his work. He doesn’t seem particularly interested at the scent that begins to permeate the air once Noemi sets down the boxes of Chinese food on the table. He begins to hum one of Beetoven’s symphonies aloud as he continues to study*
Noemi: *glances over at Sephiroth then softly coughs* Are you hungry or not? I had to spend some of my own money to get us this food. *sits down in a chair and begins placing some fried rice, orange chicken, and seafood onto her plate* It’s good food. I can attest to that. *faintly smirks* I even got you some ice cream since I know how much you love that.
Sephiroth: *moves out of his seat and heads across to her location to properly inspect what she has to eat* Hmm, how much did this cost you anyway? *picks up a plate and begins to serve himself some rice, cautiously tasting it before beginning to devour it, liking the flavour* Ice cream?
Noemi: *dismissively waves her hand* Oh, it was only about twenty credits, Sephiroth. Nothing that expensive. *broadly grins as she watches him devour his food* And yes, there is ice cream. Your favorite flavor too. *winks at him in a teasing manner* Of course, you’re going to have to pay to get that bit.
Sephiroth: *looks up at her with a moutful of food, continuing to chew as he speaks* Twenty credits isn’t that much. I already have about 80 or 90 by now. I got 50 just for coming here. *swallows, then shovels more rice into his mouth and resumes chewing* Do you have any beef stuff? *frowns slightly* Why do I have to pay if you already did?
Noemi: *nods at him* They’ll give us a weekly allowance of about fifty credits. Not much, but we can eat out every now and again with it. As for beef.. *points to one of the boxes* Try there. I tried to get as many different types of main courses as I could get on my budget. *looks into his eyes* And Sephiroth, I don’t mean you have to pay me with money. *shakes her head* You should know me better than that.
Sephiroth: *happily picks up the box containing the beef and serves himself some along with more rice, hungrily tucking into the food* Huh. *happily chews on the food, seeming to delight in it* Oh, you want me to pay for the next batch we get? This is good. *licks his lips, grinning*
Noemi: *rolls her eyes and slowly shakes her head* Sephiroth.. *releases an exasperated sigh then scoots closer to him. Soon afterwards, she leans in to give him a kiss before licking off his lips* That will do as payment, you naive little boy.
Sephiroth: Huh? *watches her come closer to him, then grins as she kisses him* Oh, right. You want a kiss as payment? That’s pretty easy to accomadate. *smirks playfully* I can do way more than that, Noemi. Though, ah… speaking about that as if it’s something to be dispensed as a monetary thing… makes me sound like a whore. *chuckles* It’s supposed to be free.
