At first, Jenna closed her eyes because she thought that Seph was going to leave to check up on other matters. However, she opened her eyes back up once she felt his weight on the bed. As he spoke, she tilted her head before she slowly nodded.
“That’s a new objective for you. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you give out the order to send out people to bring back prisoners,” she commented with a hint of curiosity. “You’re more well known for simply killing your adversaries.”
Sephiroth’s initial reaction was a scowl to Jenna’s comment. “Yes,” He said quickly, “My first and standard reply is to kill my enemies and leave no trace of competition left over.” He made an irritated sound.
“But I am not the leader of the operation, I am not at the head of the charge on the battlefront this time.” He snorted. “At the advice of another, I sent that cherry-blonde elven idiot off to war. He seemed rather interested and willing to bring the dragons back alive.”
He muttered in a lower voice now. “It seemed like the more… diplomatic thing to do…” He leaned against her finally, though his mood hadn’t improved any.
Jenna nodded with understanding at Sephiroth’s explanation. She had no reason to argue with him at all, for she found it all to be within reason. So, instead, she wrapped her arms about his torso so that she could snuggle up against her mate.
“If it makes a difference, I find your decision to be diplomatic to be a very wise one,” she commented. “Being known as never giving any mercy at all will not help clean up your image. I know that you are very concerned with your image, too.”
The silver haired male made a tired sighing sound, reaching up to momentarily rub at his forehead. He was quite tired out by the thoughts of everything that had gone on recently. Jenna’s embrace was a welcome gesture for him, and he moved to rest his head on her shoulder, closing his eyes.
“Unfortunately, it’s not about personal image,” He grunted. “It’s about diplomacy, and survival. Those dragons obviously came from somewhere. If we can get them to surrender and even win them over, who knows what will happen…”
Jenna nodded in appreciation at Sephiroth’s thoughts. She then reached over to gently rub the back of her mate’s neck. Overall, she was very pleased with her mate’s decisions. Everything that he had just said to her made sense.
“Well, either way, I’m glad that you’re thinking in such ways,” she complimented. “However, I can’t state that I would have made the same decision in your place. I probably would have not even thought it through as much.”
Sephiroth shook his head again slowly. “It doesn’t matter. If something happens while the elf is in charge, I suppose he will try and take credit for the operation.” He scowled. “Not entirely a good outcome for me, but it will stop him from moping about complaining that everyone else is getting ranked higher than he is for no reason.”
He sighed. “At least maybe now he will shut up.”
“I don’t think you need to worry about who takes credit for what. You are renown throughout the world for your accomplishments already. Heh, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you wear a single military medal either…,” Jenna lazily commented. while she was content to continue the conversation, she did desire to get some sleep.
“Medals? I don’t even think I have any. I’m sure I would have been stripped of them when I left the army after I burned Nibelheim to the ground.” He scowled, shrugging at the thought.
He finally yawned, using his telekinetic abilities to turn the lights off in the room.
“Goodnight,” He said as he pulled off his coat, dumping it onto the floor. The shoulder pauldrons made a dull metal thud as they clunked together.Jenna nodded at Sephiroth’s wishes for a good night. Overall, she was quite comfortable and was hardly bothered by the sound of his pauldrons clanking against the ground. However, she did reach over to gently pull off his boots and toss them to the ground as well.
“You’re being lazy again,” she admonished, thought she was quite humored.
“I’m being lazy?” He sat still while Jenna yanked off his boots. “It’s the end of the day and I’m tired, you know. You’re probably tired as well.” He opened his belts, wriggling out of his pants, dumping them onto the floor with his coat. Then he finally slipped under the covers, sighing.
“I spent all day in the office,” He said aloud, “Though I have been sitting down all day. I don’t need a shower…”
Jenna pressed her nose against the back of her mate’s head before she too in a deep breath. She then frowned at his words before she shook her head.
“Well, either you were doing more than you claim, or you have a sweating problem that recently developed. For, you most certainly smell like you have been training for most of the day,” she pointed out.
Sephiroth frowned as he raised an arm to sniff himself. “Oh yes, I have been training. Well not that hard….” He closed his eyes, sighing, moving off the bed to go and take a quick shower.
He was gone for all but three minutes. He came back to the bed naked, still very much wet. He cuddled around Jenna and closed his eyes, wanting her warmth and sleep.
Jenna muttered as Sephiroth returned to the bed, more tired than anything else, “I think that broke some sort of record somewhere… Though I don’t know who would keep track of such records.”
Yawning, she snuggled up against Sephiroth, even though her bulging abdomen made it hard for her to snuggle in her typical manner. After a few moments, she drifted off to sleep.
Over the next two months, up through May, Jenna continued to basically do nothing other than hang out around the house and go to appointments with Zach. The passing of time, she became more and more anxious for this pregnancy to be done and over with, especially since Zach didn’t seem to be in the least happy with the test results that were being given to him.
Finally, on the day that Rhyderi was supposed to return from his mission, she went into labor. Despite the immense pain that she was in, Jenna was more than glad that the day had finally arrived.
Meanwhile, Seres had continued to be extremely bored in her preparation class. When at all possible, she’d sweet-talk her father into pulling her out from the class so that she could train with him, Genesis, or any of the other people that actually knew what they were doing.
The ship came into the dock with three dragons heavily weighting it down. Rhyderi stepped off the ship, unloading supplies as well as weapons, leading the men off the boat with a happy cheer. He headed for the barracks while the dragons were unloaded and dragged towards the ShinRa Building, all bound-up, elven magic cast all over them to lock up their abilities.
For Rhyderi, it was a good day.
For Sephiroth however, it was a very bad day. He was highly stressed out by the fact Jenna had gone into labour. He moved around her quickly, trying to make her comfortable, offering her towels and drinks and everything else he could think of. He also looked nervous as he approached her again sighing, finally asking what was on his mind.
“Do you want to go to the hospital?”
Jenna narrowed her eyes as she watched the silver blur that was her mate pace about the place. If she didn’t know better, she would say that he forgot that they’ve done this routine multiple times before. Sadly, she had been pregnant enough times that she wasn’t even stressed by the labor at all. All she wanted was it to be done and over with.
Once Sephiroth spoke out his question, she rolled her eyes before she released a loud groan. After shaking her head, she drawled out, “Yes, Sephiroth. That is typically what should be done when a woman goes into labor.”
She then slowly pushed herself to her feet, for she wasn’t in the middle of a contraction at the exact moment. Within a few moments, she walked over to Sephiroth’s side so that she could reach up to pat the side of his face.
“Settle down. You’ve done this before,” she attempted to reassure him.
“Granted,” He grunted in reply. “But you’re also one who doesn’t willingly go to hospital unless I drag you there.” He sighed. “Shall we go then?” He quickly headed for the door. “Come on, we should be there as soon as we can.” He paused again. “Can you walk?”
Jenna released a low sigh before she shook her head at Sephiroth.
“No, that’s not it, Seph,” she responded. “I usually don’t go to the hospital because there is no point. I am immortal, hence what point is there in wasting my time, your time, and a doctor’s time? However, this is not a case of immortality. The fetus does not share my immortality, and if there is a complication, it can die. Hence, I am fully aware of the need to go to a hospital.”
Once she finished explaining, she continued to follow Sephiroth. At least until he asked her if she could walk. She frowned in thought before shaking her head.
“I probably should not walk all of the way to the hospital.. However, there’s no way you can get me there on your bike. So..”
“So…” He repeated her words, frowning.
He moved to scoop his hands under the pregnant woman, carrying her out the front door with haste. Although the scene of a man in a black cape carrying a woman with a full-term pregnancy, Sephiroth couldn’t have cared less at that point in time. He simply carried her out of the house, through the garden, and all the way across the town to the Mideel Medical Facility.
The staff must have been expecting him, for he was shown to a room virtually on the spot. Once in the room, he laid her out on the bed, sighing as he sat down in the nearest chair.
“I should call Zach…”
Jenna didn’t fight against Sephiroth at all. To be quite honest, despite all of her independence, she enjoyed being wrapped up in the strength of her mate. It made her feel secure in ways that were deprived to her for years, decades, over a century… So, she leaned her head to rest it against his shoulder, more than content to enjoy every moment of being so close to the muscled warmth of her mate.
Once they were ushered into the maternity ward, she glanced around before sighing with resignation. First of all, she was comfortable and to hospital beds were not. However, she was no fool for she knew that she couldn’t give birth while still held by Sephiroth. So, she settled into the bed that was provided to her.
On hearing Sephiroth’s voice, she shook her head before she replied, “Based on the speedy response of the staff here, I would say that one of the children probably already told Zach. My guess would be Xelong..”
Sephiroth mumbled, nodding. “Ah yes…. that would be a fair assumption. They have close ties of communication and where one is, the other can’t be far away…”
He watched the staff move by outside of the room, sighing. “There isn’t a lot of worry yet, obviously.” He shook his head. “Nobody seems concerned about you. We should flag somebody down to get a look at the very least.”
He folded his arms. “I don’t like waiting.”
“Well, Zach doesn’t bring Xelong everywhere, Seph,” Jenna softly replied. “I think the dragon usually stays at home where it’s warm and close to food. At least, I normally see him lounging on Zach’s bed when he’s at work.”
She then sighed as she watched Sephiroth’s anxious attitude. At length, she spoke out to the man, “Just go ahead and find Zach or a doctor already, Seph. I’ll be fine if you leave the room long enough to do that. Go.”
Sephiroth scowled, shaking his head. “No, I meant information, communication. Not physical proximity. If one of them knows something, the other is not far behind.” He muttered. “Forget it…”
He rose to his feet, leaving Jenna in the room. He wandered into the staff area much to their dismay, and then grunted as he left the hospital entirely, going off in search of Zach. It only took him a moment or two to track the male down, and he dragged him back into the facility, shoving him towards Jenna’s bed when he was nearby once more.
“Do something.”
Zach frowned, quite unhappy that he had just been dragged here and carted around like a piece of meat. “Sheesh…”
“Ah, I see,” Jenna responded to Sephiroth as he left. She had been confused since she had usually heard the term used in the reference of physical proximity. Hence, she did understand that she had misunderstood Sephiroth.
While Sephiroth was away, she did her best to become comfortable. However, the progressive waves of contractions made that rather difficult. At the very least, she could take some twisted pleasure in knowing that Seph actually knew what this felt like thanks to the work of magic over a decade ago.
Once Sephiroth returned with Zach, Jenna was in the midst of one of the more painful set of contractions. Luckily for her, the labor was progressing quickly and she was already nearly fully dilated.
Sephiroth just sat tight, loooking highly stressed. He reached over to hold her hand when the contractions hit Jenna. He patted her belly, scowling at Zach. He hissed. “What took you so long?”
Zach shook his head and put on some gloves, stepping off to one side to place on some scrubs over his clothing. He ignored Sephiroth for the time being as he moved back to Jenna, gently parting her legs, pulling at her clothes.
“It would be more convenient if you removed these…”
As Sephiroth held onto Jenna’s hand, she squeezed his in return. If Sephiroth were less than an enhanced human, he probably would feel as if Jenna were crushing his very bones with the intense squeeze. Perhaps he did anyway, Jenna wasn’t very concerned about that fact. Instead, her mind was centered around the pain that washed over her abdomen.
As Zach moved to her lower sections, she just grunted before she growled out, “Just do whatever you need to do. I don’t give a damn. I just want this over with!”
