“I just meant that you probably know all the terms, Father… You do seem to know about that sort of terminology,” Dimitri mumbled, feeling a bit defensive now. He uncomfortably shifted his wings behind him as he looked about the waiting room.

After several more minutes of just looking about the room, he looked at his father once more. “Seriously, where is mother?”

Sephiroth’s patience was thin already with the current circumstances. Dimitri’s question only eroded it further and he made a very angry snarling sound as he raised his head to glare at him.

“I don’t know where your mother is – stop asking me such questions! Don’t you know I have enough to concern myself with as it is? I tried to contact her and she did not respond – if she does not want to come, then quite honestly, she can stay where she is for all I care at the moment!”

He made an abrupt snorting sound and lowered his head once again as he calmed down once again. “I don’t care about medical terminology. I don’t care about Zach’s job. I don’t care about Desiree’s neglectful husband. All I care about at this current point in time is the status of Desiree’s health. I just want to get out of here.”

Dimitri froze up at the tone of his father’s voice. The boy could clearly see that his father was tense and ready to snap. So, he just mutely nodded his head before he slumped down into his chair.

At this point, he didn’t know what to do. There was nothing to do. He couldn’t go teleporting around looking for his missing family members, he never masted the skill. Nor could he suggest for his father to be proactive and gather them up. So, the winged boy just looked down at the floor. Misery was plastered all over his face.

Sephiroth gave the male a sideways glance. After a brief moment of silence, he made a resigning sigh and slowly shook his head. “I apologise for my attitude at the moment. Things are not going well for any of us.” He was silent again, pondering how to explain his feelings. “I already contacted your mother. Twice. She was largely unresponsive when I told her about Desiree.” The scowl returned to his face.

Meanwhile, Kalysto loaded up Orpheus and Milena onto the Netherdrake. He left Baneledis behind with Rhyderi, mostly because the child would have been too young to sit up and stay on the Drake while he navigated. He reached the hospital in record time. Once inside, he was directed to the same waiting room as Dimitri and Sephiroth.

“Oh…” Kalysto seemed very awkward all of a sudden. “Um, hi….” He sat down on the other side of the room and pulled Orpheus into his lap while he let Milena wander away and look through the magazines.

“She didn’t respond at all?” Dimitri tilted his head to the side as he considered what his father was telling him. After a while, he leaned in closer. “Father, where is she? You do know that you can’t be heard from everywhere, right? Maybe she just didn’t receive your message. Have you checked that?”

The boy then blinked as Kalysto finally appeared. A deep frown formed on his lips as he looked at hte elf. “What took you so long? Your wife is really seriously injured in there!”

“No shit!” Kalysto snapped back at Dimitri. “But you know what? I only heard about it when I got home. I went off to… go… do… something….” His voice momentarily trailed off, “And then I woke up in the morgue!” He flicked his ears back. “I needed a shower. So did my kid. He’s having a mental breakdown here…” He cradled the boy in his arms as he got to his feet and attempted to peer in the door leading to the preparation-room. “So what’s going on? My brother was angry. Everyone is angry.”

“You’re neglectful!” Sephiroth snapped at Kalysto. If he hadn’t been carrying the young male, he would have knocked him off his feet right there and then. For the time being though, he restrained himself.

“You were doing something that got you in the morgue?? What type of excuse is that? Why the fuck were you in the morgue?” Dimitri stared at Kalysto, not beliving what he was hearing. “That… that isn’t a good excuse at all. Your wife is in there with really severe injuries and having surgery.”

“I’m not neglectful, shut up!” Kalysto snapped at Sephiroth. He swung around to glare at Dimitri. “I was DEAD, OK? I don’t want to talk about it. But yeah, I was in the morgue, and a corpse. How the hell was I supposed to get here before now? I came as soon as I could. Get off my fucking back, I’m here now. Isn’t that all that counts?”

“We don’t know how severe her injuries are just yet,” Sephiroth was suddenly very calm. “Let’s not go misreporting things before we know the situation, Dimitri.”

At that moment, Zach came out of the preparation area, still wearing his surgery scrubs. He pulled the mask off his face and took a moment to glare heavily at everyone in the waiting room. “Don’t yell in a hospital. The next person who does, I don’t care who it is, I’m getting security to eject you.” He removed his latex gloves and tossed them into the garbage nearby. “She’s fine. Surgery is done, she’s being moved to Recovery now. With any luck, she’ll be out within two weeks.”

Dimitri simply released an angry grunt as he shifted his wings once more. He hated being reprimanded, especially since he felt that Kalysto deserved it. He got here before the elf did, and the elf should have been there from the start. At least, that was his opinion on the matter.

Narrowing his eyes, he glanced at Kalysto once more before he nodded at Zach’s words. “Well, at least she’ll recover…”

After a moment of thought, the boy looked at Sephiroth. “Father, the bond you have with mother is the same as what the elf and Desiree have, right? Didn’t you mention that you can feel it when she dies?”

Sephiroth scowled rather firmly at Dimitri, “Can we not so casually talk about that subject out in the open, please…” He rose to his feet and headed for the door. “Show us the room where Desiree will be moved to. I do not wish to stand around a waiting room any longer.”

Zach made a waving motion towards the door. “Then follow me. We will beat the surgery and transport team to her room, but you can at least find out where it will be.” He glanced back at Kalysto. “By the way, you’re going to need to feed your kid soon. Don’t treat my hospital as a child-minding facility. If I didn’t know you and the baby wasn’t related, I would already be considering calling Children’s services on you for neglect.”

“Hey, shut up!” Kalysto snapped again, feeling very defensive, vulnerable and very upset right now. “The baby’s not being neglected! I’m doing what I can….” He reached out to grasp Milena’s paw and followed. Hot tears of sadness pricked at his eyes, but he was able to fight them back on this occasion.

*”I understand what you have been saying, son.”* Sephiroth sent a telepathic communication signal to Dimitri as he began to follow Zach through the hospital. *”I suppose I can follow the bond and chase her down… I did not consider the fact that she may not be able to hear me.”* He made a rather hesitant sigh as now he was caught between wanting to be with his mate, as well as wanting to tend to his daughter.

Dimitri visibly bristled as he was scolded yet again. Scowling, he glanced to the side before he crossed his arms to pout.

However, he quickly got to his feet to follow after Sephiroth as they were being escorted out of the waiting room. Once Sephiroth began to speak to him via telepathy, the boy quickly shook his head.

“What? No, that’s not what I meant, Father,” Dimitri quickly replied. He then shot his hand out to point at Kalysto. “He’s been recently dead, possibly when the accident happened. What does it feel like when mother dies, Father. Do you think he could have caused it?”

Sephiroth stopped dead in the hallway upon hearing Dimitri’s revelation. He stared at the winged-male, and then the elf for a brief moment. Then a harsh angry expression came over his face as he bared his teeth, and he gave Kalysto a fierce animalistic snarl. “If that’s true… you are so dead. So very, very dead. I am going to kill you!”

Kalysto set Orpheus down, seeming visibly afraid as he looked back at Sephiroth and then Dimitri. He cringed a little when he was pointed at and lowered his head. “I’m just doing what I can… I’m just doing whatever I can…”

Zach lead the group to the room Desiree would be staying in. When Sephiroth discovered that it was blank, he walked straight past the room and kept going, headed for the exit now. “Call me when Desiree is placed in there, I am going to chase down my mate…”

Dimitri frowned at Kalysto’s response to his accusation. He had a pretty good feeling that he was right on the matter. However, he needed more proof. As his father left, the boy just walked to the side of the room.

Once he leaned against the wall, he pulled out his phone so that he could dial Edgeworth’s number. Once the prosecutor picked up, the boy softly spoke, “Miles, can you do a favor for me? Can you find what time my sister’s accident was. Also, can you find what time a body was brought into the morgue. It would have been a elf with black hair and very long ears. I doubt many elves of that description were brought into the morgue tonight.. I want to know if the times coincide.”

Jenna was currently on the balcony of a rather scenic mansion in Romania. At the time that Sephiroth left to locate her, she was nursing a glass of vintage wine as she stared down at the cliff that the balcony looked over. There were signs that someone else had been in the area. However, all that was left to show that was a single glass that had already been half drunk.

“Hey… hey… HEY.” Kalysto was becoming more emotional when the phone came out. When he heard the phone conversation, he became very upset and tried to snatch the phone away. He made a crying sound as he tried to snatch the phone away altogether. “What are you accusing me of!? How could you!?”

“I may not be able to get an exact time,” Edgeworth’s reply came, “But I can get estimations from witnesses and calculate travelling times and distances. However, I do not see what benefit would be gained from those two incidents coinciding.”

Sephiroth teleported away from the hospital and began to follow Jenna’s life energy signal. It was quite a distance to travel, so he teleported most of the way in distance bursts, flying the rest of the way once he was close enough. He hung high in the air over the balcony and simply observed for the time being. He was curious to know why she was there.

Dimitri released a disgruntled yelp as Kalysto assaulted him in an attempt to take the phone. Spreading out his wings, the boy attempted to push Kalysto away.

“I am simply confirming a theory, elf. Let go!” Dimitri hissed in frustration. While he could hear Edgeworth’s reply, he was busy with righting Kalysto for his phone. “Father’s reaction confirmed that those like you and Desiree can feel each other when they die. I am more than certain you caused this.”

Jenna simply sipped from her wine glass as Sephiroth observed her. Aside from her drinking and the wind tasseling about her hair, she didn’t really move much at all. For the most part, the woman was unaware of Sephiroth’s presence. Either way, she was only busy with watching the scenery.

“It’s not a theory, it’s a damn accusation! What does my death have to do with Desiree’s accident?? Nothing!” The Warlock tried to take the phone away once again, feeling incredibly upset. “Give! Give it to me now!” He swatted the wings away and resumed his assault, reaching his hands out to try and snatch the small device away.

“I will look into it.” Edgeworth’s reply came. “Goodbye.” He hung up.

Sephiroth hovered for a good five minutes before levitating down to land several feet away from Jenna. He stood on the balcony within her range of sight, having no interest in hiding from her.

“We need to talk.” He said finally. “Did you get my messages before?”

Dimitri released a frustrated grunt as his grip on the phone finally gave such that Kalysto snatched his PHS away from him. Frowning, the boy glared at Kalysto.

“That’s not your property, elf. Give it back,” the boy scowled in frustration as he held his hand out. “It doesn’t matter. I will find the truth about what happened to my sister. So, just give me back my phone.”

Jenna continued to calmly sip on her wine as Sephiroth landed in front of her. At first, she schooled her expressions to show no emotion or indication that she had seen him. However, when he spoke to her, she softly swallowed the mouthful of wine before she calmly set it down on the terrace.

“I received a long bit of static which I’m certain I didn’t want to hear,” Jenna spoke out, showing no signs of intoxication. “What do you want to talk about?”

Sephiroth frowned at Jenna’s statement. He took a step forwards and made a heavy sigh at her, silent as he debated how he should explain the situation. Before long however, he just gave up and decided to tell her exactly how it was.

“Desiree is injured. Her vehicle collided into a tree. She is in the hospital in Mideel now. Dimitri suspects that her own mate caused the accident.”

Kalysto clung onto the phone with both hands once he was successful at stealing it away from Dimitri. He clutched onto it with all the strength in his wrists and glared back at the winged male.

“You bastard! How could you accuse me of such a thing anyway!?” The phone began to ring and vibrate in his hands as Edgeworth called the phone back. However, the Warlock was too upset and didn’t want this communication to continue so he hurled the phone at the linoleum floor as hard as he could.

Jenna blankly stared at Sephiroth for a few seconds after he gave her the news. At first, she wasn’t certain what to think of the matter, and wanted to insure that this wasn’t somehow a joke. Upon figuring out that Sephiroth wouldn’t joke about such matters, a deep frown formed on her features.

“I… see… Well, at least she wouldn’t die,” Jenna softly spoke out. “How did the elf cause such a thing? Do you think it is true?”

Dimitri whined in frustration as the phone began to ring. “Give it back to me, Kalysto. It’s my phone. And I’m accusing you because I’m certain that you caused it with whatever you did to wind up in the mor-“

The boy then yelped as Kalysto threw the phone down on the ground. “My phone!”

Meanwhile, the action would have triggered the phone to pick up. However, Edgeworth would have been likely to be treated to a loud screach and clatter as well as the sounds of Dimitri yelling out “my phone”.

Not wanting to waste any more time, DImitri scooped up the phone to try to figure out if it could still work. Upon noticing that the screen was completely trashed, he shot a glare at Kalysto. “You owe me a new phone.”

“Dimitri sounded relatively certain of it.” Sephiroth’s expression remained a stern frown, as he wanted to convey the message that he was not kidding in any way whatsoever. “He thinks the elf’s death resulted in her car-accident. I’m not sure if it was deliberate or not…” The male made a soft protective growling sound and gritted his teeth, “…but I am certainly willing to believe it.”

Edgeworth picked the phone up to the sound of yelling. He didn’t like the sound of it and began to call out “Hello?” over and again a few times. When the loud screech hit his ear, he was quick to yank the phone away. “Hello? Hmm…” He hung up once again.

“I owe you NOTHING.” Kalysto snapped back at Dimitri. “In fact, you owe me, because of what you’ve done! How could you make such an accusation?! You don’t have an ounce of proof!”

“That’s it… stop yelling in the hospital. Shut up or get out – that’s your final warning!”

The voice came from down the hallway. Zach moved with the medical team as they wheeled Desiree’s bed down the corridor towards the room. He ignored the others completely once it was time to he help set the bed up in the room. Once that was in order, he busied himself with IV lines and antibiotics.
“I’m not tolerating your bullshit any more. Neither should anyone else. If you can’t be quiet, get out.” Once he was calm, he shook his head. “Desiree will be awake within the hour. I suggest you keep it down.”

“Hrmph… I highly doubt that he meant to do it on purpose, Seph,” Jenna spoke as she glanced at the second glass of wine. However, she choose not to mention anything about it or its owner. “I’ve dealt with more than enough people who want to cause others harm, I know how to spot them. He’s not one who wants to harm Desiree.”

Jenna shook her head. “Not to mention, I highly doubt the young elf understands the properties of the bond well enough to do that. Hrmph, it’s a foolish stunt to attempt if he wanted to live through it. They could have both died, permanently. As far as I know, the only person who would have attempted such a stunt would have been my younger self, and that wouldn’t have worked for my needs.”

Jenna waved Seph off. “No, the elf is a fool, but no malice-intended villain.”

Dimitri scowled at Kalysto as he cradled his phone, trying to figure out if it could be salavaged. Upon finding that it was completely busted, he shook his head.

“You most definitely owe me a new phone. I was trying to get the proof. I don’t know for certain, I only have a hunch. And the way that you’re behaving isn’t hel-“

The boy then tensed up as Zach came in to scold them again. Scowling, the boy glared at Kalysto before he walked over to the window to silently sulk.

Sephiroth made a short grunting sound upon hearing Jenna’s assessment of the situation. He watched her body language very closely, and it was at that point he observed the second glass of wine. He raised an eyebrow but continued to listen to his mate’s commentary. “Yes. I suppose so…” He twisted his mouth into an unhappy expression. “I don’t see the elf wanting to harm her either.”

He continued to stand there, although now he was silent. He did a scan of the area, wanting to know if there were any other life-energy signals nearby.

Kalysto glared heavily at Dimitri, but since he was being told to shut up, he didn’t respond. Instead, he sat on the other side of Desiree’s bed and kept close to her, feeling very miserable indeed.

While there was a singular other lifeform in the general area, it was no longer near the balcony. In fact, it was moving away as if to leave the mansion through normal means.

Jenna hummed in thought before she looked at Sephiroth’s face once more. “I assume that I should head home then. My daughter does need me, hm?”

“Yes.” Sephiroth said quickly. “We need to do something for her. His expression didn’t change and his posture became rigid and stiff. He remained where he was, curious to see what Jenna would do now.

Nodding, Jenna moved closer to Sephiroth. “Very well, let us go home.”

Not seeming to care much about the fact that Sephiroth is tense at the moment, he reached out to grip onto his upper arm before she gently hugged him, trying to indicate that she was ready to head home with him.
