“Oh, he did hug from time to time.. Just things were difficult when I was younger. I don’t think I ever really went into detail about what my mother did to him… Let’s say that she made some of your worst spells in these books seem like child play,” Desiree commented.
“Demonology and the art of Shadow and Flame manipulation aren’t something a child could do… unless you’re my Grandfather’s offspring.” Kalysto smirked. “Are you? No.” He shrugged. “Not to belittle your story there, but yeah…”
He shrugged. “Maybe tell me another time, hmm…” He resumed stroking Desiree’s belly, eyeing it off as he continued.
Desiree sighed at Kalysto before she gently pinched Kalysto’s ear so that she could massage her fingers against both the inside and outside. She only held the ear in a firm enough manner that her fingers would keep contact.
“My mother seperated my father’s soul from his body but didn’t kill him. She then left for almost ten years… He controlled his body from the outside during that time,” Desiree explained. “You do know that my mother has a split personality, right?”
Kalysto hummed, almost seeming impressed. “Ah, soul fragmentation. We do that to stay alive. Place a fragment of your soul in something, in something else… store it in a stone… and then when you die, you can use it again.”
He nodded. “I think you told me about your mother before.”
Desiree shook her head. “I don’t think it was anything like that spell you’ve used to cheat death before. She didn’t fragment his spell, she completely pulled it out. If his body died, he would have had no body at all from what I remember. Either way, I don’t want to go back to those times.”
“But… that doesn’t make any sense. The body doesn’t live without a soul resident in it. Unless he was a zombie…” He blinked. “He wasn’t a zombie, was he? No offense, but that’s just kind of weird. And very, very cool at the same time.”
“Ask my mother how she did it, I honestly don’t know,” Desiree explained. “All I know is that if we moved the container that had his soul from the vicinity of his body, he would have gone completely limp. Also, he couldn’t really feel his body. You never said anything about feeling numb when you had those soul stones or whatever being used.”
“Huh…” Kalysto pondered Desiree’s words, scratching his head. “Sounds like a containment vessel. That’s not so hard to do. But if you put the vessel away from the body, yeah, that would happen. You were lucky you didn’t kill him.”
He closed his eyes again, not really wanting to discuss the subject further.
“Yea, we were all lucky…,” Desiree softly agreed. She was more than happy that Kalysto’s curiosity was sated. So, she just returned to stroking him and reading her book. She was comfortable now, and enjoyed the close proximity of her husband. So, she was more than content and at peace.
Kalysto just sat there in Desiree’s close proximity, eyeing off her belly, pondering to himself. It was easy to tell his mind was hard at work after a period of time, for his ears began to twitch occaisonally and his expression had turned serious.
He said nothing though, and let Desiree read.
Desiree was focused on the words that she was reading, so she didn’t notice that Kalysto was brainstorming. Given the fact that her husband usually tended to scheme something or another, she usually didn’t pay much attention to it. In general, she found that letting him go through with his schemes made a much happier Kalysto than stopping him.
However, she paused after a few moments so that she could nudge Kalysto’s shoulder. As she tried to gather his attention, she pointed to the segments on healthstones. “Please explain to me why this book goes on and on about corruption and destruction, then you guys can heal things?”
Kalysto glanced upwards as he pondered Desiree’s question. “Well that’s the thing. Your Dark Pact with a demon does that. You don’t heal other people. You just heal yourself.” He scratched his head, pondering further. “Ah, healthstones… we don’t…. generally like to talk about that…”
“Well, it clearly is spoken about here in this book, Kalysto,” Desiree pointed at the pages before she released a long sigh. “You guys are so confusing. You keep on talking about burning things, but then things like this..” A lazy smirk appeared on Desiree’s lips before she leaned in to kiss him. “…and you.”
Kalysto blinked. “It may look entirely contradictory but… that’s not how it is.” He pondered how best to explain, “We heal ourselves using the demon’s pact we made. Not much more complicated than that…”
He smirked when he was kissed, “Unless you want to complicate things.”
“Hrmph… Yes, complicated. Well, that definitely defines you to the letter,” Desiree purred at her husband before she kissed him again. “Not that I mind. Your uniqueness and quirks make you adorable.”
“Oh so I’m adorable now…” Kalysto seemed very humored by this statement. “Damn. And I was aiming for evil. Conniving. Perhaps unapproachable, dark, evil… the last thing I would expect to hear is that I’m adorable.”
He chuckled. “Adorable it is. Damn. I will have to work on my darkness quotient a little more.”
Desiree’s smirk grew even more as Kalysto mock-complained about her compliment. So, she set her cheek down on his shoulder before she hummed. “Oh, is that so? And what if that would only make you even more irresistibly adorable, hm?”
“So how would I have to be more evil looking?” Kalysto reached up to poke her nose. “According to you, I mean. What would you have me do? I skulk around in a lab all day. I make potions that are capable of killing people. And… well…” He flicked an ear in thought. “I wield demons that are capable of killing you, along with half the town. So…?”
Desiree shook her head at Kalysto’s inquiry, though she refused to lift it from his shoulder. “Oh, that would be impossible. For, no matter how evil you try to be, you’ll always be my sexy demon lord who screams like a girl.”
“I do not scream like a girl.” Kalysto firmly stated, ears stuck back on his head. “Well…” He raised them again, flicking the left one sideways. “Maybe a little bit. But not very much. I’m still a male you know. You know I’m a male, because you’ve had fun with my male parts more times than I can actually count on all my limbs now.”
He poked her belly as if to emphasise the fact. “Also, I impregnated you, afterall.” He smirked. “I’m either a male, or one very very fucked up female.”
“But men can still scream like girls. Having a scream like a girl doesn’t make you one. It just makes you.. you,” Desiree chuckled as she finished her statements. “And yes, you managed to impregnate me twice now, and I am more than grateful that I have you and the children you gave me. I love it all.”
Kalysto chuckled. “You like… getting knocked up by a male shorter than you whom also happens to scream like a girl? Man, you have some seriously weird tastes and desires, my love.” He grinned. “But neither of us are normal. So…”
Desiree released a light chuckle before she nodded her head. “Yes, that’s exactly it. We are both very stran-“
Desiree cut off her words as she heard the phone begin to ring. Sighing, she pushed herself off of the couch before she moved over to the phone rack so that she could answer the call.
“Sol’Thenan residence.”
Kalysto glared horribly at the rude intrusion into his coziness. He sat up and flicked his ears back low on his head, eyes narrowed at the phone’s receiver piece in Desiree’s hand, pondering ways to doom and damn it.
He gave up and decided to shift into the seat wholly, essentially stealing Desiree’s warm spot.

“Hey, Desiree,” Zach said in a cheery voice on the other end of the phone. “Zach here. How are you doing? Just thought I’d call to let you know that mom had triplets a little while ago. Two boys, one girl. Everyone is doing well. The babies were a bit undersized so they’re going to be in the hospital a few days until they’re fine.” He chuckled, not seeming the least bit worried. “Oh, ah… while we’re on the phone. Your doctor wants to see you in three weeks about your next ultrasound.”
