“I doubt they will either,” Desiree commented. “There are only three out there with your type of ears. The Earth-based elves have… not as long ears as you.”
She shrugged then settled back in her seat. Yawning, she relaxed as the plane continued to sail through the air. Once they reached their connection point, she groaned at the need to get up and move. However, she did so anyway. After some navigating to find the right gate, she once again sighed as she realized that they had to wait.
Kalysto was tired and a bit grumpy by the time they were boarded through to the next connection gate. He was also frustrated and bored out of his mind. He wanted something to do. He wanted to tinker with potions or weed out his garden or anything else other than stand around in an airport that smelled so heavily of coffee that it burned the inside of his nose.
He sat down on one of the waiting benches and picked up a newspaper. However, it was not in any language he could regognise, so he put it down again, sighing.
“I wish I had known it would take this long to get somewhere..”
Desiree hummed before she shifted to look at the newspaper that Kalysto was browsing. After a few moments, she shrugged before she muttered, “Well, we are traveling half-way across the planet. I suppose the wait is to be expected.”
“Yeah, but it’s boring…” Kalysto grumpily crabbed. He was getting tired, he was fed up of sitting, and his hair was a mess. “I can’t wait to get there. I’m going to take a shower and sleep.” He moved to lean against her, sighing.
“It’s going to be nicer once we’re there, too… we’ve a nice room to ourselves. It overlooks… well. Heh. You’ll see.” He grinned. “It wasn’t too expensive either. With the value of the Gil, we’re rich compared to other countries.”
Desiree grinned as Kalysto leaned against her. So, she leaned in to wrap her arm about his shoulders. She then softly hummed at him.
~I’m certain you picked an excellent room, Kalysto,~ Desiree commented. ~Your sense of taste is unmatched. So, I would find it hard to believe that you would ever pick something that is undesirable.~
Thus, she cuddled with her husband as they waited. Once the boarding call was announced, she got up to move to their seats in the plane.
Kalysto frowned as he noticed how much bigger this plane was than the last one he had been in. “Longer flight, bigger transport? Makes sense I suppose…” He handed over the tickets and so stepped into the plane.
He escorted Desiree to the seats in the business class section, grinning. “The lady at the desk said that if I had the money to spend, get this section for a long flight. Looks like we’re not sitting next to random strangers so I’m glad I chose this option.”
He took his seat in the cushy chair and began to relax. “Ten hour flight. What the hell are we going to do for ten hours?”
Desiree grinned as she noticed the quality of their seats. Nodding in appreciation, she sat down next to Kalysto before she snuggled up against him.
“Hm? Well, I don’t know about you, but I planned on sleeping,” Desiree stated. “Sounds like the perfect time for me to sleep. However, I think there will be several in-flight movies that you can watch if you don’t want to sleep.”
Kalysto frowned. “Ugh, I hope there’s something I actually like. Oh well…” He sat still, waiting for the plane to finalize boarding and take-off. Once the plane was in the air, he sat still for about five minutes, playing around with the stuff he had at his fingertips.
“So you’re going to sleep? I can’t see a whole lot of much else to do…”
Desiree lazily nodded her head in response, for she already was half-way asleep. She then yawned and shuffled against Kalysto’s side a bit more.
“Yes, that’s my plan. It sounds like a perfectly good plan too..”
Kalysto nodded his head and left Desiree to sleep. He watched one of the movies, ending up falling into a light sleep at the end. He woke up every so often, grumping about the seat and not being able to get comfortable.
After a time he got to his feet and began pacing the small aisle space nearby, at least until he was instructed to return to his seat again.
“Fuck…” He grumbled.
Desiree groaned as Kalysto’s pacing disturbed her sleep. So, she reached up to rub her right eye before she stretched out her legs.
“Kalysto… Why don’t you read a book or something? There has to be something you can do other than disturb everyone…” Desiree lazily suggested.
Kalysto grumbled at Desiree’s comment and leaned back in his seat. “There’s no books in the bag. I also read all the in-flight material.” He bumped her arm. “I am going to use the rest-room. Walking there will kill at least five more minutes…”
He walked off, frowning. It was going to be a long flight indeed.
Desiree tilted her head to watch Kalysto leave to the restroom before she shook her head once more. Sighing, she leaned down to grab her carry-on bag. After some digging, she pulled out a deck of cards.
When Kalysto returned to his seat, Desiree was busy shuffling the deck.
“Poker?”
Kalysto turned his attention to the cards, smirking at Desiree. “What? Poker? Are you kidding me, Desi?” He reached out to take the pack, looking the cards over. “This is Uno. This is that Last-Card-Standing game. Look.. the card game name is even on the back.”
He took the deck though, and began to shuffle it. “Good enough.”
Desiree looked at the cards as Kalysto mocked her. Her face slightly reddened before she looked away in embarrassment.
“Yes… I was… aware of that, Kalysto. I was just testing you,” Desiree quickly attempted to cover up her mistake. However, she knew that her mistake was rather transparent.
“Well, it’ll keep you from driving everyone in the area insane with your pacing. So, let’s play.”
Kalysto seemed not to notice her slip up. He just shuffled the deck and began to lay cards out onto the table, dealing seven to Desiree and himself, flipping the top card over to begin the game.
“You can always go back to sleep if you get tired.” He informed her. “You go first.”
Desiree nodded at Kalysto’s words. However, for now, she was content to keep him occupied by playing games. Thus, for the next few hours, she stumbled through the various card games in the carry-on pack. For the most part, she wasn’t aware of the rules for most of them. However, she did her best to put up a worthy opposition.
Eventually, she tired out and fell asleep again. By this time, the sky outside was dark.
Kalysto packed away the card games after Desiree was properly asleep and settled back in his chair, kicking the footrest up, leaning the backrest as far back as it would go. It was like sleeping in an arm-rest recliner, which wasn’t entirely disagreeable. However, no matter how much he shifted about, he couldn’t get comfortable. He pulled the blanket that the airline had provided over himself and struggled to settle down.
“This sucks…” He sighed.
Desiree cracked open her eyes as she felt Kalysto shifting about next to her. After releasing a tired sigh, she pushed up the arm-rest separator. As soon as the separator was out of the way, she reached over to grip onto Kalysto’s shoulders before she moved his head so that it’d be rested on her chest.
“Now, get to sleep,” the newlywed scolded.
Kalysto put his head down on her chest, twisting himself into a somewhat more acceptable position. He closed his eyes and drifted back into the light doze he had gotten into earlier. While not actual proper sleep, it kept him quiet for the remainder of the trip. He was quick to wake up when the flight attendant announced a breakfast service, and the landing within the hour.
“Breakfast…? Heh..” He nudged Desiree. “Wake up. Do you want food?”
Desiree moaned as she woke up. After taking several minutes to stertch her stiffened muscles, the young woman sat up before she nodded.
“Mmm… breakfast… sounds good to me.”
Kalysto adjusted his chair, then waited for the airline attendant to come by with her cart. “OK, er, the choices are bacon and egg, sausage and.. crape? What…?” He paused, reading the menu again. “I don’t know what that is…. the other option is cereal.”
He handed it to her. “Choose something. I have to fill in documentation soon.”
Desiree glanced over the menu for a few moments. Eventually, she asked for the crape meal for herself. After ordering, she looked over at Kalysto and shrugged.
“I don’t know what it is. However, we might as well be adventurous.”
Kalysto hummed in thought. “Well I guess…” He put the menu away and waited. When the airline attendant came by with the meal tray, he ordered the bacon and eggs plate for himself and one of the sausage and crêpe plates for Desiree.
“They look like pancakes….” He mumbled as he eyed off her food.
