Desiree: *chuckles at him before she licks the outer edge of his right ear* You’re still soft. *Smirks at him* So, what do you think about my family anyway?
Kalysto: Ooohhhh… *pins his ears back, probably causing the one she licked to get right in her face* Um, your family. They’re alright? They’re different. Not freaks, but… different. Bear in mind where I come from, though.. they’re not that bad.
Desiree: *Grunts as she is momentarily whacked by the ear. However, she continues to tightly hug Kalysto against her. She then nods her head* Well, I’m glad you don’t think anything too negative about them.
Kalysto: Why would I? *pauses, shaking his head* Are you embarassed by them? They’re not bad people. They’re weird and different, and a bit self-concious, but not bad. The humans give shit to anyone different from them. But in reality, they’re jealous because of our talents and abilities.
Desiree: Hm? No, that’s not what I meant. It’s just, you’re part of my life, and they’re part of my life. I like the fact that the two parts of my life can get along. *tilts her head* Self-conscious? Which one is self-conscious?
Kalysto: *sighs and begins to count off on his fingers* Your dad is self-concious about his looks. I see him preen in the bathroom mirror. A lot. If he’s not preening, he’s brushing his hair or adjusting wrinkles on his clothing. Dimitri is self-concious about his wings and suspicious when you ask him questions. Cancer is self-concious about everything. You ask a question, she gets defensive and hostile. Sometimes she ignores you. Zach is self-concious about being a fatty.
Desiree: My father isn’t vain if that’s what you’re thinking. *shakes her head* He told me that when he was a child, he was beaten if he didn’t look immaculate, so he keeps himself clean. *Shrugs* Yea, I guess Dimitri is a bit sensitive about his wings. He fell out of a tree when he was really little and has been afraid to use them. Still… suspicious about questions?
Kalysto: *shrugs* I don’t know. Maybe he’s being sensitive. He is growing into that awkward phase of puberty you know. *shrugs again* Like I said, he was suspicious about my asking questions when he was reading his law books. Then he walked away when I tried giving him a suit with frills on it. *pauses* Nothing wrong with being flamboyant and looking good while doing it.
Desiree: Maybe he just doesnt’ share your.. umm… unique taste in fashion, Kalysto. Not every boy likes to wear dresses and robes. *shakes her head* Not that you don’t look good in them.
Kalysto: *shrugs* He was just a little too defensive and sensitive about it. He felt, almost… *narrows his eyes in thought* Threatened, I don’t know. Maybe he doesn’t feel so secure about his own sexuality? *shrugs*
Desiree: Secure about his.. *blinks and thinks about things for a moment. She then blinks again as she starts to put pieces together* Umm… Kalysto.. How did you figure out that you like both guys and girls?
Kalysto: To be honest? I don’t really know. I just… interacted with other people and felt tenderly about them. Their gender didn’t matter. It was all the same – I got to know them and I liked them more and more. I had feelings about them, and then I enacted on those feelings. Though, in the case of Fairenn, he kind of found me and enacted on it. He was a protective dominant type, which I gave into. *shrugs his shoulders* Does it matter?
Desiree: *continues to think about Dimitri then mutters* Do you think my brother might like guys and not girls? Zach had started collecting pin-ups of girls by Dimitri’s age… I haven’t seen him do a single thing like that. *shakes her head* You know more about that type of stuff than I do.. Can I be wrong?
Kalysto: If it’s true, let it work itself out naturally. Bringing it up and talking to him is going to make him really upset and defensive until he has come to terms with it, and made peace with it himself. *shrugs* It’s plausible.
Desiree: *bites her lip as she considers this* I suppose… Though if he is, shouldn’t someone who’s been on that side talk to him? That way he doesn’t feel like it’s.. you know. *sighs then contacts Sephiroth* ~Father, I really hope that you’re not in a training session at the moment.. Or doing anything with any sharp objects. Umm.. I should tell you that I think Dimitri is gay.~
Sephiroth: *is silent for several seconds before answering* *”What?”*
Kalysto: You want me to talk to him? *deeply frowns* What do you want me to say? Oh, hey there, I saw you liked dudes, are you gay and would you consider taking it up the ass? *twitches* Yeah I’m sure that would go over well.
Desiree: ~I’m not certain, but after considering everything… I think Dimitri likes guys and not girls.~ *frowns at Kalysto* Of course not say that… But you should know some things that would make him not feel.. I don’t know, quite so insecure? I don’t know what to do with people that are figuring that stuff out.
Kalysto: He could also be fantacizing about members of the same sex. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s gay. People have the occasional “same sex fantasy”, you know. I’m sure something like that has happened with most people and they wouldn’t consider enacting on it. Do you think he could just be in that stage? I wouldn’t place such a heavy sexuality brand on somebody that young.
Sephiroth: *snorts* *”Do you have proof?”*
Desiree: Maybe, but my father never really taught us much about same-sex stuff. I mean, I was pretty clueless about it until I met you. I don’t think Dimitri would have a inkling that homosexuality exists.. *Sighs* ~Well… Nothing concrete, no. However, Kalysto and I have both noticed things. He has a lot of pictures of guys on his walls. Kalysto says that he seemed defensive in a way that made him sound sexually insecure. Zach already collected porn when he was Dimitri’s age. I really think he likes guys, Father.~
Sephiroth: *”Thank you for the information.”* *growls, though Desiree cannot hear him because of his location in the army barracks*
Kalysto: *sighs* It’s still early. Let me visit a newsstand and go buy a magazine for him. *moves to his feet, flipping pages back in the book until he would be on the page where Desiree left off* I’m sure they have magazines like that. *shrugs* Maybe a book? *slips out of the room*
Desiree: Maybe… But he should still know that it isn’t horrible if he goes that way, right? I mean… just.. *shrugs* Yea, do what you think is best, Kalysto. *she grins as she takes the book again. She then returns to reading*
Kalysto: *”Yeah, I’ll work it out. Don’t worry, I’m not going to feel up your little brother or anything.”* *heads down the street, detouring into his shop to collect some money from the till. He shrugs and picks up the takings box for the week and heads to the news-stand to go buy some stuff. He walks back to the house and heads for Dimitri, knocking on his door* Hey, can I talk to you?
Dimitri: *jumps, startled by the knock. He stares at the door for a few moments before slowly speaking* Yea… come in. *as he says this, he buries his face back in the book that he was reading*
Kalysto: Phew…. *opens the door and steps inside, nodding at Dimitri* Can I bridge a possibly uncomfortable topic with you? It’s about something important. *sets the paper bag of magazines and books on a table and walks over to the bed, sitting down on it nearby Dimitri*
