Maria had withered at nearly the same pace as leaves further up north would have dried out and shriveled. However, in the tropical enviroment that they were in, the trees kept a good majority of their green leaves all throughout the year. In any case, Maria’s depression and self-loathing had made her turn on herself several times throughout the past few months, occaccionally attemting to scratch out the fetus from her enlarged abdomen. However, most of the time she simply stopped caring and would stare out the window for hours to days on end without responding at all.
Despite her steadly degenerating physical state, her stomach continued to swell and the infant did not seem to have many ill effects due to Maria’s neglectful attitude. Any time that Zack may have scanned the fetus to check up on its health, he’d find no abnormalties or anything of concern, even though the mother’s body was another story. About the only major problem would be that the infant may be too large to pass though the mother’s passage. So, the probability that Maria would require a C-section was rising with the day.
As for today, Maria had been staring out the window as usual when her water broke. She didn’t even bother to react to the discomfort of sitting in the fluids and continued to stare out the window.
Maria: *blinks, coming to with the sound of Zack’s voice and slowly looks up at him* Hello, sir… The water looks cold today.
