Why the WOM site acts like a seperate site

I just feel like rambling for a bit. This will probably be easily ignored, for it’s just for my own rambling purposes. In fact, I’d dare say that this article will bore like crazy. However, it is going to exist.

Anyway, I know that there have been people who have been confused when I made the blog for the Well-Oiled Machine. The blog is hosted on my site, seferia.net, because it costs me nothing to add it on. It doesn’t bother me at all to give some of my webspace to them, they are a great group of people with great personalities. They deserve the chance to shine. They deserve it a lot more than I do, that’s for sure. So, it is my great pleasure to let them pigg-back on my site in order to gain the attention that they deserve.

Still, I am more than certain that people notice that both blogs are based off wordpress, yet they cannot use the same account on both of them. In fact, I know because people did comment on it to start with. Well, the simple answer to that is that I did not set up a multi-site installation just in case the WOM did decide to move to a different server.

For one point, Crosswinds, as great as they are in giving me a reasonalbe price, has been subject to receiving DOS attacks. Thus, I can easily see how the downtimes that come with these attacks might cause a problem. So, I want to give them the option to move to a location that possibly has more stability. I have a relationship with the crew of Crosswinds, they do not. So, no point in forcing them into the relationship if they don’t want it.

Then, there’s the simple fact that their site currently has my name on it. Even if the wom.seferia.net had worked in the ways that I had wanted it to, seferia.net would have been part of the address. Malek has spoken of claiming something like wom.com some day, and I support his desires to have a web adress that is all about wom, and not so much about me. So, I’m certain that the current set-up is temporary.

Now, to go on a tanget for a short moment, the website was indeed supposed to be wom.seferia.net and not seferia.net/wom. In fact, if you click on those two links, you’ll notice that the sub-domain somewhat works. However, the site refused to accept wom.seferia.net as a base. So, it’s more like the wom.seferian.net only forwards to the folder and doesn’t include the entire folder. No one was able to give me a good solution to getting the sub-domain to work the proper way. So, for now, it’s stuck like it is. Maybe I’ll bother Tony one day about it. However, I doubt that would be the proper solution either. He manages the backend stuff for the server, but I doubt that he’s the right person to ask on how to get my site to work properly. Oh wells, for now, it’s not important.

Now, don’t get me wrong, this article is not something to say “Hey, you guys, get off my site!” No, I’m just rambling about my ideas and stuff, as I said from the start. I love being a webmaster and managing sites for others. As it is, no one is paying more than they were before the wom site was set up. So, everything is working out just fine.

Also, if Malek does decide to split off and gain a domain for the wom, I will be more than happy to continue providing the webmastering services that I do now. It is my pleasure to have made a site for the guys, and I do hope that more of them use it for their blogging desires.

Thus, I end my ramble of unimportant ramble.

A new addition approaches

Seferia has been administrating her own website for well over ten years. She’s seen the coming of many new things such as CSS and templates in her time.

Well, now Seferia has volunteered to put that basic knowledge of throwing together a website and maintaining it in order to assist the group of great guys that she has met through Monster Hunter. The WOM had been testing various ideas on how to advertise their activities, for many of its members had streaming or recording abilities. So, for the last few weeks or so, we had been experimenting with how to get the word out there and make a unified hub for our activities. We have tried twitter and google+, but neither quite had the right feel to it.

So, now, Seferia has agreed to lend a part of her site to let the WOM hopefully blossom into the hub that they dream of oiling upon.

Thus, Seferia is glad to announce that http://wom.seferia.net is up and running. There’s not much content there at the moment, because it’s new. Also, there’s always the chance that the group will decide to get their own server elsewhere. However, Seferia will be more than happy to assist in the administrating no matter where the site goes.

There are still a few small details that need to be implemented to make the site look nice and pretty. For instance, the Forums tab will direct to the group forums, same as seferia.net‘s does. Seferia has every intention of bashing that until she figures out how to make that area point to the larger forums that are installed. Also, Seferia has a few color elements that she needs to mess with.

However, for the most part, the site is ready for the public to see.

Seferia will still post of WOM activities here as well, though. After all, Seferia loves spreading insanity.

Is Seferia done talking in third person? Well, for now, she is!

When great plans go wrong

We still manage to laugh it up and blame the universe.

Last night, the WOM got together yet again on Tri in order to create something that was that thing over there. That thing over there wasn’t pretty, but it was a thing. It was so much of a thing that it wasn’t even potato. Nope, it was just a thing of a thing that is a whatzit. Mmmm-hmm…

We had DCs, guys who don’t believe in capturing, and monsters setting up the deaths.

Ok, I may have lied earier

Well, somewhat. I’m still not putting up the entire recordings up on my blog. However, I recalled a fun part in our streams. So, I felt that it deserved a nice bit of highlighting.

Torchlight II has really been a delightful breath of fresh air. It has a simple charm that only has one element that bothers both Meez and I. We both dislike that we have to use our mouse to move around. In our conversations, we both agreed that we preferred wasd for movement. However, it’s a minor factor for me.

Also, that element has nothing to do with the video that I’m about to put up.

Anyway, Meez and Ryen were wandering about as we were preparing to fight a boss. So, Seferia got bored. In the process of getting bored, Seferia decided to entertain herself by typing “/dance” just to see if something would happen.

You see, back in her WOW days, Seferia used to /dance all the time for no good reason. /Dance is a way of life for Seferia. Hence, she wanted to /dance, thus she was delighted to find that she could.

/Dance for the win!

The WOM delivers

Give the members of the WOM a challenge that is absolutely absurd and should have no purpose being accepted?  No problem!  We’ll take it on and we’ll laugh in the face of impending doom!

Last night, the WOM got together on Tri and conducted a semi-planned stream of battling streams.  Meez and Seferia both streamed the events of that night.  Meez had music, Seferia had game sounds.  Seferia fought with TME and Xsplit.  Meez was Meez.  Overall, we all had fun.

Feel free to watch the recording of the two streams down below. Continue reading The WOM delivers
