Dance Central

It’s been a while since I’ve updated my blog.  I really should get around to daily posts or something, not that I really have much of a reader base…

Anyway, I have officially broken down and bought a Kinect, mostly because I made a small gamble with myself.  Basically, I was shopping on Black Friday for a simple transfer cable to so I can get my data over to my new 250 gb harddrive for my xbox (gifted to me).  While at Best Buy, one of the clerks said that Kinects should have been in stock at one of the other local stores.  So, I was like “well, it’s normally out of stock.  So, if it is actually there, I will consider it fate and buy it.”  In all honesty, I expected it to be out of stock, but there were indeed multiple Kinects at that store.  So, I went ahead and splurged.  At that time, I only bought Kinectimals, which I shall talk about in some other post.

However, I also bought Dance Central via Amazon, and that game just came in today.  So far, I feel like the game is the real deal.  It is exactly what I had hoped to find when I went into DDR several years ago.  At that time, I didn’t want to buy an expensive mat, so DDR was never fully fun for me.  To say the least, I had issues with the mat slipping out from under my feet and not registering my moves.  However, that is not the case with Dance Central.

With Dance Central, I am feeling a full body motion experience for starts, not just my legs.  Also, I know that my mess-ups on my scores are all me now, and not hardware mis-haps.  This makes me much more content with my scores than I ever was with DDR.  I also must admit that Dance Central has definitely gotten me sweating.  So far, I can’t do much more than 3-4 songs without taking a break.  However, I think I’m going to make it a program to do 20-30 minutes of this game a day to exercise.  It simply feels that effective.

Now, I do wish there was a larger song selection and that the songs came in more affordable packs.  So far, they are 240 points per song, which is a bit of a hit to my wallet.  Still, I broke down and bought one of the DLC songs because it is so nostalgic (Whoop! There it is).

Anyway, Kinect definitely feels like fun tech that produces more exercise experiences than the Wii.  So, in that way, Microsoft succeeded.

The pangs of gaming.

Seriously.

Due to space concerns in my room where I game, I usually game from my bed.  I also use my computer from my bed.  I’ve been doing this for years.  However, there’s a large draw-back to this set-up, I have no back-support.  So, I tend to be in serious pain if I have to sit at my computer or for my games for long periods of time.  Wireless gaming can solve this, since I can lay down.  However, not all circumstances permit this.  And lounging on my side to my computer keyboard has seemed to pull muscles as well.

So, I am now at the point in which I must think of back support.  I don’t think I can continue to stand playing games without any form of back support.  However, previous attempts, such as husband pillows, have faltered due to sliding out from behind me.

Enter my candidates for new choices on my gaming set-up:

ZEEK Gaming Chair w Black Canvas Folding Frame

The Zeek Gaming Chair – for the price, it seems like a sturdy choice.  However, I do not know about reliability or comfort.

Denim

The Foof Wedge Chair – More expensive, by far.  However, I have a Foof Chair and I love it.  They are very reliable pieces of furniture as well as very comfortable.  However, I do not know if it will supply reliable back support.

Well, those are my thoughts for now.  I’ll probably get the cheaper one for now.

Peco Armor: check. Perfect gun combo: …

Well, I have continued to work on my new lowbie for the Journey over the course of the last two days.  By now, the challenge is definitely presenting itself for me.  For, as a gunner, I need to constantly keep myself supplied.  Thus, after each mission, I spend my hard-earned zenny on ammo.  Luckily, I’m making more zenny than I’m spending on ammo.  I also have a shortage of supplies such as mega potions and regular potions.  So, I rely heavily on the item box to give me the supplies to get me through each challenge.

However, I have made quite a bit of progress during this time.  I have fully created a peco gunner set, which helps gives me a few split seconds extra to successfully evade.  This set also gives me a bit of an improvement on my potions’ healing abilities.  Thus, I am able to heal the hits as well as take them a bit easier.

I’ve also made a few gun parts in these few days.  However, I have yet to find that perfect combination that makes me happy.  I have a combination that can give me strong use of poisons, though it lacks in nearly every other status option.  I also have made a combination that gives me a strong use of sleep.  Then, I have a gun combination that is average on nearly every option.

Furthermore, I’ve discovered that the database for creating gun combinations that I had been using was flawed.  The creator had failed to put in the proper ammo counts for the light bowgun frame.  So, now I am wondering if I should go back and make that frame.

As it is, I think I may be ready to take on Barroth.  However, my gun is strong on fire attacks.  Meanwhile, Barroth is weaker to water than he is to fire due to the amount of time that he stays mudded.  I also would like to make some bombs before I take on Barroth.  With my sleeping abilities, we could sleep-bomb the annoying wyvern with ease.

On a final note, I have no idea what my next target armor set will be.  Perhaps Barroth, perhaps I’ll hold out until I get my hands on Lagi armor.  We shall see.

Today’s fandom hall of shame

I may make this a regular bit, I don’t know.  I mean, it may be a bit mean, but…  Here it goes!

I tend to frequent fanfiction.net when I’m bored at work.  It keeps me entertained to read up on my favorite characters in new ways that I may have never even have thought of.  However, as with any part of the fandom, there are always the “what was s/he thinking?”s out there.  These are pieces of work that are so bad or… bad that one has to wonder how this person could dream of putting them up for show.

Of course, I tend to set my searches to a bit of higher standards in hopes of avoiding these turds, but somehow they always slip through the cracks.  Thus, you will never see me post a fic that is below 10k words.  Anything below that point is just too easy to find horrible.

Well, here is today’s entrant into my personal hall of shame.

Dragon’s Scales

Welcome to the fic where you have a mary sue, who happen to be Sephiroth’s sister.  Gets even worse.  The pair happen to be both dragons for unknown reasons, because being a ShinRa experiment isn’t good enough craziness for Sephiroth…, and they also are mates in order to keep the dragon blood-line pure.

Congrats, Dragon’s Scales.  You have definitely made a mark.

Dear spam-bots

Not that this will make much of a difference, but:

Give it up!  I can pretty much easily tell that you’re a spam-bot by seeing the fajklfajkls; in your answers to things like AIM SN.  Also, none of your comments are getting through.  Registering here is getting you no-where but to a deleted state.

To buy or not to buy

I have been a Sonic fan since my early years.  However, as with most other sonic fans, my feelings for the series have wavered with years of…  not so fun games.  Hence, I have come to a point in which I am not so certain of myself when looking at Sonic games.  Sure, I’ve bought some horrible ones in the past, but do I want to continue doing this?

Coming up shortly, in just a few days, I will have to ask myself that question again, for Sonic 4 will be available for X-box live or the PS3.  I think I’d buy it for my X-box, even though I need more space on that hard drive (but that’s another matter).  However, I don’t know if I’ll buy it at all.  While it does look like a step in the right direction, the feeling of speed seems a bit diminished.

Thus, I shall have to ponder over this issue.
