The weekend round-up

Well, it is Monday, so back to work for me.  However,  I had plenty of events that occurred over the weekend to speak of, so I might as well speak of them.

As I mentioned in a previous post, EVO occurred this past weekend here in Las Vegas, so I swung by to hang out with the guys.  For the most part, I had fun.  We conversed and had many laughs while hanging out there.  Some attempted to convince me that a game called Dive Kick was great…  I just didn’t see the appeal.  It was much too bland for my tastes.  However, those that got into it certainly had fun.

On Saturday, I woke up with a terrible headache due to dehydration, something that sometimes happens since I live in a desert.  Thus, when I wasn’t able to park where I had planned to and had my way blocked to park in the alternative spot, I parked at the Palazzo, which was farther north than I had intended to be.  Thanks to the distance, heat, and already dehydrated state that I was in, I quickly felt too flushed and exhausted to continue down to the Coke Store where I had intended to meet up with some guys for some more hanging out.  So, I had to miss out on that.

However, I did not miss out on the dinner at Margarittaville, which was rather fun.  Greg, Toshin, Will, Will’s girlfriend, and Toshin’s friend all joined me there, and we just chattered on for a good two hours while dining.  It was a very fun time.  I once again wish to thank Greg for treating us.

So, that’s basically what occurred at EVO, however, one other thing did occur this past weekend.  I had hosted another Freedom Fridays stream last Friday, which went much smoother than the previous attempt.  I still need to do some tweaking, for there were points in which the video froze up.  I think it was mostly my computer or connection being a pain though.  I also noticed that even though I don’t recall a drop in the connection, the saved stream is in two parts.  So, either my cat walked over my keyboard or the connection did drop for a few seconds.  I’ll continue to fiddle with the settings to perfect everything.

Anyway, for those who wish to see the result of last Friday’s stream:

Enjoy.

Plans for this weekend.

Yay, the weekend is basically here.  I just need to survive a few hours of work, then I’ll have my blissful days off.  Even better, I actually have a plan for the weekend.

You see, starting today, there is an event going on in Las Vegas called EVO.  While I won’t be competing at all, I’ll still be heading over to hang out with a few people from Capcom Unity who have gone to Sin City to enjoy the show.  We also plan to eat at Margarittaville tomorrow, which is one of my favorite spots.

So, tonight, after work, I’ll be swinging to the Caesar’s Palace to check out EVO and see what’s going on.  I also do still plan on streaming tonight.  However, I cannot say when I’ll be available to stream.

For safe keeping.

I’ve been wanting to learn Japanese for quite some time. I even bought a book on Japanese when I was like 15 years old, give or take. However, I never really was able to get into the language outside of listening to music and watching sub-titled media. Well, yesterday, I asked Greg from Capcom, an awesome guy who knows Japanese, to help me. Hopefully, I’ll be able to properly study it this time around.

However, for now, I’m going to put the list that he gave me here for safe keeping. I currently am a bit short on funds, so I’m going to wait a short bit to get the books that he recommended.

Essential Kanji: http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Kanji-Characters-Systematically-Reference/dp/0834802228/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1341370394&sr=1-1&keywords=essential+kanji

People also say Genki is good, but I never used it: http://www.amazon.com/GENKI-Integrated-Elementary-Japanese-Edition/dp/4789014401/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1341370443&sr=1-1&keywords=genki

Also, I looked at a few apps on the iOS store in an attempt to get a bit of a start before I get my hands on the books above. I’ve found an app called Human Japanese that looks like it may be a good start for the meanwhile.

I’m also considering writing a blog post in Spanish about once a week. I had studied Spanish for 5 years back when I was in school. However, I’ve only retained a small bit of all that I had learned during those years. I might as well try to actively use it in order to rebuild my skills.

It is honestly quite amazing….

I’ve been a part of Capcom-Unity for about two years now. Nearly the entire time, I’ve had my steam account mentioned in my signature. Yet, only recently have some of the people who I actively speak to actually noticed that I have Steam. I received many “wow, Seferia, you have Steam?”s when I joined the WOM group on Steam.

I’ve even previously mentioned jumping on a sale of Skyrim on Steam this past winter…. People are just honestly strange.

Anyway, I spent most of my night last night messing with Adobe Premiere. I had somewhat messed with the program in the past. After all, I went to college with a Flim/Video/Animation degree in mind, though I didn’t follow through… But that’s beside the point. Anyway, I had forgotten most of how to use the program, though most of it is quite self-explanatory. Overall, I had the largest problem figuring out how to encode my project into a format for YouTube.

Well, I think I finally figured it out this morning. So, hopefully that very simple edit job will be up and available on YouTube tonight.

Not having a good week.

Well, things started off good this week. I’ve been using Dance Central 2 to do cardio workouts at home, which has been quite enjoyable. I was overall having a good time settling into my new modding position at Capcom. I laughed at many jokes from both my fellow co-workers and moderators. Then, things went downhill fast.

I sadly have lost my wallet and doubt I’ll ever see it again. It had all my credit cards and my driver’s license. It also had my health insurance card. I’m certain that I will never see that wallet again…

So, on Tuesday, I spent a good part of the evening calling my various financial services to tell them that my cards were lost and possibly stolen. Luckily, nothing erroneous had been charged on them. However, I currently can’t buy anything..

Then, I came into work late yesterday since I wanted to stop by the DMV and get a replacement driver’s license. At least the wait was quick. I was in and out within an hour. However, it was still a pain that I had to do that at all.

Oh well, on the upside, I spent last night watching the Big Lewboski with Chump on Netflix Xbox Live party. It was quite an enjoyable experience.

It is definitely getting cold out there.

I swear, I really should use this more often.  It’s sometimes fun to ramble on around here.  I know no one reads this, but it’s still fun to babble around like an idiot and just babble.

Anyway, November has definitely brought in the cold around these parts.  I definitely think that I’ll bring a coat with me to work tomorrow.  I’m thinking one of my nice and comfy lamb skin leather coats.  So nice and soft.

Meanwhile, I’ve recently become a blue at Capcom’s official forums.  So, yay, I think I’m certifiably insane!  However, I love my Monster Hunter crew, so I don’t mind spending time to help out the site.

Screwing up your own website isn’t good

Thank goodness I am competent enough to figure out how to clean up my own mistakes.

This morning, I decided to go ahead and update my phpbb in the halcyon folder of my site. Well, it didn’t go too well. First, the site had a fatal error, which I tried to figure out. I unzipped files a few times, tried to figure out the line error, then gave up.

So, I tried to have fantastico update the forum’s files… Well, to say the least, that didn’t have the intended effect. All the files for my forums vanished at that point. Hence, I was left with next to nothing to try to recover.

Luckily, I had backups. So, I decided to purge it all and reinstall the forum. At first, I was a bit stuck because the database information was unknown to me. Thus, I wasted a bunch of time trying various options to get that to work. At long last, I had it up and running.

And those backups helped me recover years of roleplay and make it all nice and pretty so Kat won’t know a thing unless she reads this… or asks where the quick reply went. I’ll get on finding a new quick reply mod later.

Hopefully the end of annoyances

Well, the last few days have been a bit hectic. Sadly, crosswinds has been under attack by nefarious forces, and my site has been caught in the crossfire. The attacks have made 500 errors pop up frequently enough and so on. However, it feels like things are settling down.

I’ve also dealt with a BuddyPress update which wrecked havoc on my previous templates and theme. So, I’ve spent some time cleaning up the damage that was caused. At this point, I think things are looking rather nice.

I also should use this more.

The pangs of gaming.

Seriously.

Due to space concerns in my room where I game, I usually game from my bed.  I also use my computer from my bed.  I’ve been doing this for years.  However, there’s a large draw-back to this set-up, I have no back-support.  So, I tend to be in serious pain if I have to sit at my computer or for my games for long periods of time.  Wireless gaming can solve this, since I can lay down.  However, not all circumstances permit this.  And lounging on my side to my computer keyboard has seemed to pull muscles as well.

So, I am now at the point in which I must think of back support.  I don’t think I can continue to stand playing games without any form of back support.  However, previous attempts, such as husband pillows, have faltered due to sliding out from behind me.

Enter my candidates for new choices on my gaming set-up:

ZEEK Gaming Chair w Black Canvas Folding Frame

The Zeek Gaming Chair – for the price, it seems like a sturdy choice.  However, I do not know about reliability or comfort.

Denim

The Foof Wedge Chair – More expensive, by far.  However, I have a Foof Chair and I love it.  They are very reliable pieces of furniture as well as very comfortable.  However, I do not know if it will supply reliable back support.

Well, those are my thoughts for now.  I’ll probably get the cheaper one for now.
